Special/Custom Two-Tone Paint

Does anyone have a Chevrolet or GMC pickup from '71-72 with the Custom Two-Tone paint factory option? Though I am not sure if GMC called it by the same name. Corrections there anyone?
It has been contended that production trucks were not made with this paint scheme for '71-72. Trying to come up with data or pictures Yes or No. If anyone has a dealer bulletin showing limited or non-availability I would really like to see it.
In '69-70 (and earlier) Chevrolet offered what was termed Special Two-Tone Paint. It had a white roof and white below the lower body moldings. Sometimes seen on trucks but more often Suburbans where it continued on through '72 under that name. On pickups however for '71-72 Chevrolet offered it as Custom Two-Tone along with the new Deluxe Two-Tone (white between the bodyside moldings).
It is shown in the '71 Chevrolet RV brochure and in '71 GMC Pickup brochures. Plus a '72 GMC Pickup brochure as well. Chevrolet Data books from both years offer it as well, as late as the Jan. 28,1972 revision.

The problem is it is not listed as an option. None of the two-tones are, only as paint code. So if you think we have a winner but are not sure post the paint code (or a SPID picture) and I will check for you.

Cool Re: Special/Custom Two-Tone Paint

I have a piece of info that tells you all about the 1970 two tone paint color combos that they sent the dealers in the communication box

Re: Special/Custom Two-Tone Paint

That just clears things up nicely, not the answer I was looking for, but seems to tie things up at least as Chevys go.
Thanks 70c10-08 for posting that info. sheet.

So then Custom Two-Tone was the name for the trucks with conventional (roof only) paint but with a color other than the conventional's white. It is apparently not the name change that I had convinced myself of. It makes sense as the custom is the same price as the conventional paint. Below are a couple of pictures of this rarely seen paint treatment.

As far as the RV brochure pictures go they were the just likely early, pre-production pictures taken before the option was pulled.

It would seem then that '71-72 trucks with the white rockers were very early '71 ,"special paint" or post-production changes.

Re: Special/Custom Two-Tone Paint

I have a Chevrolet dealers binder from 1968, and it states that if you buy more than 1 truck its considered a fleet purchase and you can get them any color you want.

Re: Special/Custom Two-Tone Paint

Remeber that truck on just looking at the SPID. Yes it is a little relevant in that a late Chevy truck having the white rockers appears to needed to have been a "Special Paint" vs the previous RPO "Special Two-Tone".
Thanks for the help!

Re: Special/Custom Two-Tone Paint

I always knew the two-tones to be Conventional/accent color top,Custom/top & below lower trim, and Deluxe/top & between upper and lower trim. Special paint referred to any requests that differed from standard line offerings.
