Re: i hate body work

Timely topic for me. I'm debating how much body work to do or have done on my panel.

I'm an expert swearer, maybe that will help...

Do it yourself unless you have fat pockets because those shops will kill you with how much they charge. Use your skills as a swearer and save some bucks.lol

It's mostly a matter of do it myself of don't do much. I'm just starting to look into it. The big question is how much do I need to spend on tools...

When you said this, the first thing that came to mind was how much i've hurt myself working on trucks and cars...case in point (if y'all have time for a short story)...I was redrilling a billet output shaft flange on my rock crawler's transfer case a few years back...got to the last hole to drill and a buddy asked me where something was in the shop. i moved my head ever-so-slightly and the drill took me for a ride around the underside of my crawler. smacked my head pretty good and cracked my elbow...looked like i got in a fight with a hammer LOL.

I'm prone to this a lot actually but normally my work isn't that bad. so I think the next time i get asked "Where did you learn to work on cars?" I'll say self defense too!

Re: i hate body work

On the welding, practice makes better, I won't say perfect. About 35 years ago I hired on with a Midas Muffler shop as the front end man. I ended up doing a lot of muffler work because they didn't get much front end work in the door. The shop manager would stick a couple of pieces of scrap pipe on muffler stands up overhead where they would be standing under a car and have me practice welding them until I got good enough to barely meet his standards. The man could weld exhaust pipes with a torch and have them look like some of our best HAMB tig welders work. That is how I learned to weld worth a damn.
