Thumbs up Re: Might be the owner of crew cab

GO BIG! crews look bad-ass lifted. it looks like it already has about a 6-8" lift in it, that's pretty much how mine sits when i stuff it in the garage in the background ( i also pull the valve stems & unbolt the shop door )

My truck started out 2wd so when I converted it to 4wd I used a 4"x4" 1/4" wall tube and welded the leaf spring hangers on it then bolted and welded that tube to the frame. My truck had 12" springs in the front with longer shackle bars, a shackle flip in the rear with 8" rear springs and a 4" block. Then it had 3" of body lift. It could have used some more lift to make the area inbetween the body and the 53's not so little. As for shocks, I never had them on it as it was a yard queen. Steering was cross over but I sold it right after I put it on.

Not with the 53's on it. I drove it before the upgrade back when it had the 396.

Re: Might be the owner of crew cab

I sold my tires and wheels to a local guy and he said they drove just fine. Alot of it could have been the truck/roads.

Re: Might be the owner of crew cab

find the longest shocks you can, then fab up some drop brackets off the frame. my buddy with a 15" lift (all spring) on his k20 made a long drop bracket to mount dual shocks. when your that hi with them big tires though, your tires are basically your shock asorbers

Re: Might be the owner of crew cab

I did get a chance to go look at it finally today. It's really solid truck. It has 4 wheel disc crossover steering superlift all spring lift aluminum radiator. NP205 t-case. Skyjacker shocks. It has a tach dash that comes with it also. It has bucket fronts bench rear. It was converted the right way it looks like.

Re: Might be the owner of crew cab

sounds like you just need to drop in a b.block, throw on some 38 or 39's & go wheeling. 14 & 60 axles?

Re: Might be the owner of crew cab

its a 14 & 44, i did find me a 396 for it the motor needs heads and a intake, i have a pair of steel heads still looking to see if i have a intake. got to find a Trans for cant decide if i want to put in a 700r4 or a 400. i have a 700r4 here out of my other truck and since im not making it 4x4 im not going to use the 205 in this truck im going to use it in my 80 gmc.

Re: Might be the owner of crew cab

ya, i've been seriously debating throwing a 700r4 in my crew. a 1:1 3rd gear with 4:56's & 38.5's behind a b.block is real detrimental to fuel mileage. i rebuilt the 400 in 08, & it's been rock solid though, just sucks going threw the mountains with the camper & trailer

Re: Might be the owner of crew cab

im probably going to use the 700r4 for the OD and maybe a little better mileage. Ive got my basic lift of what to order/get now to get it closer to being done but now i need to decide what im guna do for paint probably flat black with old school pin striping
