Company Trucks
Well here goes my first build thread. I make no promises as I have seen many of you do an awesome job of not only building your trucks but documenting them as well. So here goes my attempt at it.
My business partner and I bought these trucks a little over a year ago with the intent of making them our new company trucks as well as promotional tools. After many hours of discussing what we wanted them to be and deciding on a direction we realized we both wanted slight differnent trucks. So one will be on a static setup while the other on air. So here is how they looked a year ago. |

Re: Company Trucks
Well this was the weekend to get started on the trucks. We started moving them around and getting them where they needed to go for the start of the tear down.

Re: Company Trucks
I brought my truck to the shop to start the tear down. All I can say is I hate rivets.

Re: Company Trucks
I also made a kart for the cab to roll it around on and help make it easier to do some of the body work.

Re: Company Trucks
69CST-V, looks like a great start. Great looking shop with fab tools(welders, acorn table, ect). I love the idea of them being company trucks.

Re: Company Trucks
Shannon, Thanks for the props. However I think you need to come do the body work as you make it look simple. I've followed your threads and you do some great work. I might need to some pointers as these cabs will need lots of work and these are my first "AD" style trucks.

Can't wait to see what you're able to do with these, especially since they are staying in MO and back on the road.

Well the metal is about what you get in Missouri. LOL. Hopefully what's there is solid.

Re: Company Trucks
Well I started the tear down of the second truck. I will post pictures in the morning. I think I will have nightmares of little rivets everywhere. I have developed a system that works for me now that I'm almost done.

Re: Company Trucks
69CST-V, I shave them down close with the plasma cutter and finish grind them with a grinder. Then hit them with a punch. They are a PITA.

Re: Company Trucks
Thanks Shannon, I've done that with hard to reach ones. I've come to be pretty comfortable with going around with the cutoff wheel putting an "X" in them. Then air chisel the heads off. Switch to the punch shaft in the air hammer. Then if they don't come out heat up just the rivet with a torch till its red then air hammer with punch again. Works for me.

Re: Company Trucks
So with the frames leaving I will start to put together a game plan on the cab's. I am very fortunate to have Classic Parts about 3 miles from my shop or LMC across town. That being said my wallet hates having them so close.
I will be gone till next week on business, so until then let me know what you think. |
