Trading For Happiness

Yesterday I just traded a 85 Buick Regal for this 67 Chevy short bed. It has no engine or trans, but it has been converted to 5 lugs and disk brakes. It also came with a set of rally wheels with new 275/60R15 tires. I'm happy with the trade and after he paid me some money, I only ended up with $180 in the truck.
I hope to have enough extra parts to put the truck back together while spending as little as possible. I should have everything I need other than some patch panels and other small parts. I would like to come out spending no more than $2000. I hope to have it on the road by spring.
The 1st pics are the buick and where the truck was behind his house. The rest are at my shop and the deconstruction and frame cleaning started.

Looks like you've got your work cut out for you. You have the right gauge cluster, you can't find those with the throttle and choke on them. Good luck with your restore!

The front fenders and the bed also look to have the side marker light cavities filled in. That would mean they are '68 or later, not '67.

You may have a hodge-podge truck here, but hey, it is about happiness, and driving what you want.

Definitely a project, but you knew/wanted that, so it should be fun.

Good luck with it, and keep us posted on your progress!

Screw on the inside of the door just below the vent window. 72 was the only year for this.

Re: Trading For Happiness

Driver's front is a 69+ Chevy fender. The Pass side is a 67 Chevy (possibly 68, can't tell if the marker light hole is filled in)

What I'm saying is, the driver's fender is not going to line up to your grille. You'll have to replace it if you want the 67-68 style grille. The frame appears to be 69+ too. The core support mounts .. It's either the 67-68 are flush with the top of the frame or 69+ .. but I'm thinking thr 67-68 core support mounts are lower.

That's not a big deal, BUT .. maybe the core support is 69+ too? Not trying t opick apart the truck at all .. not what I mean. I just wanted to mention that things might not line up when / if you try to get the clip back on it. I hope it works out for you. I have an extra 68 Driver's fender if you need it. I'll make you a deal on it.

Re: Trading For Happiness

Time to check the number stamped into the drivers side frame rail, just aft of the ps pump.
Post it up and we will tell you what the frame is (it should match the VIN somewhat)

The left fender is 69 up and the bed is 68 up. The frame and cab are 67. I got it because I love 67's. I have a complete 67 front clip as well as many other parts from other years. My goal is to piece the truck back together with as many used parts as possible. I wasn't even looking for the truck, but the trade just fell in my lap. You can't have too many of these trucks.

The trade is really sounding good, with your complete front clip already in hand.

Everyone on here pretty much lives and breaths these trucks, so when they see something that doesn't square (as my post, and others pointed out) it's never meant just to shoot down, or degrade. It's all for education. No one really knows how much knowledge/experience a poster might/might not have. So those that recognize inconsistencies just want to educate and inform someone of what they might not know.

Believe me, in my relatively short time on this forum, I've seen several cases where someone thought they had one thing, and turned out, they had something totally different (or multiples of) and they wouldn't have known (at least not as soon) were it not for this forum. As I'm sure you've discovered, it is an invaluable tool for anyone with even a passing interest in these trucks.

It is a rare thing that just what you need falls into your lap......you should go buy a lotto ticket!

You are right about that last one too! Although at least one of the multiple owners on here is looking to "lighten up".

Re: Trading For Happiness

I got a little more done today. I won't be able to work on it again till next week. I have to go out of town for Thanksgiving so I was hoping to start a parts list and do a little dreaming while I'm eating turkey.
Here's a few more pics of what I got tore down today. Check out the older floor patch panel. They don't make panels like that any more.

The frame is definately '67 the core support brackets are all the same height but the '67 has the small hole in the bracket and the '68 up has the large hole. Also look at the frame beside the steering box, it does not have the dimple for the power steering box. ('67 only)

The '67/'68 hood won't work with those fenders but if you have a complete front clip that is a moot point.

"Check out the older floor patch panel. They don't make panels like that any more...."

Way-long ago, I swapped - inherited a '53 Stude Loewy coupe which had been used as a a street / strip terror. When I started cleaning it up, I found that the floor rot typical of all those Studes had been patched with pieces of Folgers & Maxwell House coffee cans, slathered-up real good with roofing tar.

I never finished the car, because a guy came along who wanted it way more than I did.
