Yes we agree as well, we loved the ease of use for the product as well as the end results. Good luck with both your trucks, sounds like you have quite the collection of vehicles.

Re: Fade to Black 71

Finally making a little progress, not the greatest pictures in the world which are coming from the 72 year old painter but it's as good as we could get in the paint shop. We also had a little hiccup with the motor being a little tall, so the old man decided to cut a whole in the hood to allow it to stick through rather than finding a different intake.

These are new little brackets a guy made for my dad to use when he's hauling the truck on a trailer, instead of using axle straps around the axle where the brake lines run you can use these as attachment points.

They mounted the switches where the heater controls went, however we weren't a big fan of the bedliner material they used behind the switches, so they'll be redoing that.

All in all things are moving forward and it's starting to look like a truck again!! Should hopefully have the rolling chassis back in the home shop in the next couple of weeks.

Re: Fade to Black 71

Few more pictures of the truck still getting color sanded and started running the wiring. Still not the greatest pictures but they work. We also discovered we won't be able to cut a hole in the hood because it would interfere with the bracing in the back of the hood not giving it enough structural support. So it's off to plan B now, new intake and sell this one.

Re: Fade to Black 71

Making progress, the old man sent these pics today while he was dropping off some parts. The grille gives it some good attitude we think, and the fill cap in the bed turned out pretty good as well. Once we get it back we'll get the inside of the bed all sanded down and spray in some Raptor liner. Can't wait to see this thing fully put together.

Re: Fade to Black 71

So today was the day we finally got to bring her home. Granted it's not completely buffed out yet, but it still allows the old man to get a few things done to it while the painter is busy with other projects. We are extremely excited to get it back into the shop and get working on it. So let the long list of tedious projects begin. Enjoy.

Here are a few pictures of the new wheel and column, I forgot to get pictures of everything before they were installed. The wheel is installed correctly, it's just turned a tad bit when they parked it.

Re: Fade to Black 71

Well after about a 4 month hiatus we are back. Now I know it's not much but hey the old man has to start somewhere. So he's been working on getting the power steering pump bracket painted, mounted, installed etc...I don't have any good pictures of that plus it's not that exciting. He also has been working on getting the seats mounted by making new brackets and installing everything. The only thing left on the brackets is adding a skirt that goes around the brackets to enclose them.

This is what he's been working on that has been consuming his time. This is the third one he's made. The first was for my son, the second for charity, and now this one for his newest grandson. Him and a friend designed it on the computer and his friend cut out all the pieces on his 3D CNC wood router, the machine itself is awesome.

I really like how the seats don't stick up into the view of the back window.

Re: Fade to Black 71

So I need some help here, the old man and I are having a friendly competion about the wheels. Now I know this is his truck but eventually it'll be mine...

The good news is he agrees they need to be black. He really likes the old school Torq Thurst wheels that are black with the chrome lip, which is a tried and true wheel. I just think they are a little dated.

However, I think if he goes with a 5 spoke wheel he's going to go with the Rocket Racing Hypershot that we'll have powder coated gloss black while keeping the chrome lip.

Now this would my choice, it's more of a modern wheel and I think they are awesome. But like I said, this is his truck so in the end it'll be his decision but I'm just curious what everyone else thinks. Thanks.

You stated in your post the word Eventually, but not right now. I would go with your dads choice. Remember you only have a little time to make him happy. Make the most of it.

Yes, more than likely we will get the ones he wants.

I totally agree, like I said this is his truck and he gets the final say. He told me if I could persuade he might think about it.

Re: Fade to Black 71

Well I just realized it's been quite some time since we last posted. A few things have been going on and we've been quite busy with the addition of my second son, which was pretty awesome, and my old man working his crazy busy hours like normal. Even though he's been working like crazy he's been able to get a few things done. He took the truck back to the painter and had the final buff done on it so now we are in the home stretch on getting this thing put back together. When he went to pick up his truck he took a friend's El Camino over to get its restoration started. Luckily he owns a custom truck business so they worked out a little trading.

With the windows installed the old man said it totally changed the feel of the truck. He also got the door handles powder coated and installed.

Re: Fade to Black 71

Christmas in March, the finally round of parts made there way to the old mans house this past week, so now the fun begins.

In the last few pictures you can see the tires that we were trying on for size were just a tad small so we took them back and order one bigger size of 255/55/18. So these should get mounted up on Monday and we'll go from there and see how they look. All in all things are moving along quickly and hopefully in a few weeks we'll be able to fire this thing up!!
