Rally wheel painting.
So in the 1st pick you can see that my rallies are in bad shape, that ones a good one. My materials are in the 2nd pic, plus sand paper. I sanded wheel down till completley smooth ,using 220 grit, then applied 1st coat of primer. Between 1st and 2nd coat of primer I wet sanded using 400 grit. 3rd pic is after 2nd primer coat. I did three topcoats follwed by three clear coats. 4th pic is 3rd topcoat before clear. 5th pic is the finished product. Im doing these one at a time because I need to drive my truck. When Im completley finished Im going to get 3in. trim rings, take the center cap paint off, and get some gmc inserts for the caps.

Re: Rally wheel painting.
Those look great. Did you have them sandblasted?
You might check with PT'S 70 CST for the center cap emblems. Has for Chevy, not sure about GMC.

Re: Rally wheel painting.
I just did the same to my rallies last summer, got them sandblasted and epoxy primered, then paint and clearcoat, and bought new 3" rings from lmc.. they are the only wheels for square! Looks great!

Re: Rally wheel painting.
Ill have to check into that. Ebay and amazon don't really have anything good; it seems that everything GMC is expensive..

Re: Rally wheel painting.
The centers can polish up real nice with some elbow grease and time. I did it to mine and they came out real nice.

Re: Rally wheel painting.
Thanks now I just need to get them finished lol!
That powdercoat looks good ramz. Searching for those cap inserts is a nightmare. @99-ls1, I sanded mine cause it didn't cost me money, but having them sandblasted would make it alot quicker.

Re: Rally wheel painting.
I know you did multiple coats of everything but where they thick coats or light coats? I have 5 rallies in the back of my truck waiting for paint and I've got a coat of primer on one. Just trying to figure out best way to go about this. Does the primer really need to be sanded with fine sandpaper before paint? Thanks.

Re: Rally wheel painting.
If you know anyone with a soda blaster, it takes the paint off as fast as you can spray it. I did a set last summer. Total time to strip all four center caps to shiny chrome was about 2 minutes.

Re: Rally wheel painting.
Found a set of caps with inserts on ebay. Some pitting, but for 17 bucks I couldn't pass it up.
