Keys?

Just picked up my 72 and only have one key and it works the ignition. The key doesnt work the door locks or the glove box lock. Were there two keys for these trucks originally? One for the ignition and another for the doors? If so I need to have a locksmith make me a door key.

Re: Keys?

No they only came with one key from the factory. It is likely that someone changed out the ignition at some point.
Regardless, a locksmith should be able to make you a key for the door.

Re: Keys?

I changed the ignition switch many years ago in my 72 C20 and lost what then became the door key(s) somewhere along the line. I just recently picked up the LMC door/ignition/glove box lock package in order to get lockable doors again. Not sure what a locksmith would cost to get the door keys made, but you might look at the LMC package to compare. Plus, one key then does it all.

Yes. It is the way to go. I just did it about a month ago. If you need help, look at my past posts. I did a thread when I did the work

Re: Keys?

I bought a set of door locks, ignition, and a glovebox lock. All the same key. It was from Manes truck parts. They were only 39.00 I think.

Re: Keys?

Another option not mentioned is to remove the door locks to get the 4 digit code stamped on it. Take that to a GM dealer and have them "punch" out a new key.

Just bought a 71 Chevelle that had no keys so I took the ignition and glove locks out, got the code and new keys made.

Just another option...
