Picked up this cool little gem this past week ('85 Scottsdale)

While surfing craigslist this past week I ran across this '85 Scottsdale. The seller mentioned that he was moving and needed to sell. He continued to drop the price until I couldn't stand it anymore and had to go look at it. The truck has 66k miles on it and is mostly original. the previous owner (second owner) took off the sport mirrors and added those big honkin dumbo ear mirrors, and he also added the rain shields above the mirrors.

My first thoughts when I saw it was that the truck was owned by an old man. Sure enough the guy I bought it from was 69, and the person he got it from was the family of the person who bought it new. He said that it had new tires and that the old ones were giving him some trouble. When he took it to the tire place they told him that the tires were from 1985. Pretty scary that he was driving around on 25+ year old tires!

It has the 4.3L V6/700R4/3.08 combination. I have only driven it about 20 miles home so I don't know if I like the running gear combo yet or not. I like the fact that the 4.3 is different than the 305 that I often see, but it seems like it should have a lower rear end (such as a 3.73 perhaps) so that it runs in a more efficent RPM range. Like I said, the jury is still out on that one.

I don't have any plans for it yet other than removing some of the old man gear such as the bug shield, running boards, and bed rails. I might try to find some sport mirrors to put back on. I assume the guy had to drill holes in order to mount those big mirrors, so I am not sure what I am going to do about that yet.

The paint looks better in these pictures than it really is. It is a really cool truck!

the closer you get to the age of 69 the younger that becomes! good looking truck nonetheless Some of that "old Man gear" is quite sought after like those bed rail things

I saw that truck. IIRC the guy was moving out of the country right? or am I thinking of another square. Nice looking basically unmolested truck, as you probably know those are getting harder to come by even though squares are still plentiful around the Carolinas. Congrats on the buy.

Re: Picked up this cool little gem this past week ('85 Scottsdale)

Thanks for the complements. I should have said "older man" man instead of old man. I'm 25, so it's all relative I guess.

I am supprised at how much those bed rails are going for on ebay!

I was definitely at the right place at the right time.

Yep, watch out what you think is an "OLD MAN". I do not feel like an old man at all and I "am" 69. I still feel the same as I did when I was much younger except your body slows down a bit. LOL Nice looking buy you got there "KID"

Cool truck! I would just leave it totally stock and get rid of all the bolt/stick ons. I would definitely do something about the rear gears too. I guess that wouldn't be too hard for me though, I already have a truck where nothing is stock so my itch is pretty well scratched.

Re: Picked up this cool little gem this past week ('85 Scottsdale)

Yup, looks pretty familiar to me! 305/TH350 LWB and I had 98K showing but other than that we share the old man parts! LOL! I had already removed the running boards in this picture, but the "mud flap" front wheel arch pieces are still on there for now. I can't decide if I want to keep this look and just lower it down on some 20's, or ditch the old man stuff all together and go Nascar truck look on 15x10's...

Cool truck! Thanks for sharing. The last two sets of new old stock LWB bed rails on ebay sold for $1300 and $1500. Crazy!

I'd be tempted to leave it in full Old Man glory and enjoy it like it is. That's a really nice survivor.
