Grill Swap

I seen a lot of threads about switching hoods to different year trucks and such. My idea is to get a 67-68 Chevy front clip and put it on my 69 Chevy, but I want to put the 69 grill on the 67-68 front clip.

Is any of that possible?

And does anyone have pictures? That is if it has been done before.

Re: Grill Swap

Here is a "how to" from LFD, lots of pics and instructions. 67-8 hood on a 69+ clip. In order to use the 69 grill you need to keep the 69 core support and fenders. It is a lot of work but can be done. You can do most anything with enough skill and determination.

Re: Grill Swap

Awesome thanks.

Just some questions though, Why do you have to have 69 fenders for a 69 grill?

Re: Grill Swap

Because the 69 fenders have indentations for the grill to wrap around, whereas the 67 68 fenders didn't. 69-72 chevy fenders are the same.

Re: Grill Swap

Yep what Barry said, 67-8 fenders don't play nice with 69-72 grills. On the core support I think the headlights are slightly off from 67-8 to 69-72 so the core support must match the grill.

Re: Grill Swap

Are the indentations really that important to have for the grill? I mean if the 67-8 fenders don't have the indentations, will a 69 grill even line up with the 67-8 fenders like it does on 69 fenders?

Re: Grill Swap

Sorry for asking something that has already been mentioned. Didn't see your response before I replied.

So aside from all that has been asked and mentioned and scratch out my first idea...

What's the difference from a 67-8 grill and a 69 grill?

Re: Grill Swap

67-68s have a more sloped front end than the 69-72s. You can mix and match 69-72 stuff, as long as it is Chevy and the core support matches the year of the grille.

Re: Grill Swap

Hmmm, I guess there is a lot that's different between the years. Looked up LMC Grills and there's a big difference in grills too.

I'm sure it's possible to do what I'm thinking, but would require lots of work. I don't mind lots of work. I guess I would learn how to weld lol

Anyways, when I get the money to buy a fron't clip, I think I just may give it a shot and if it works I will post a thread like LFD did.
