Isuzu 6H / dmax lg4 7.8 swap

I have been collecting parts for 4x4 dually crewcab project and already have a 6.0 and a 4L80E trans and complete aftermarket harness. The engine and trans are already mounted and i just came across a great deal on a 07 Isuzu 7.8 and a allison auto from a 07 GMC 7500. Any thoughts or ideas from you guys ?

The diesel would be sweet, but you're going to have more fitment issues with that 7.8. Be prepared for mods.

Re: Isuzu 6H / dmax lg4 7.8 swap

I did a quick search on the duramax forums and turned up a few posts claiming the 7.8 was gutless. Its also really heavy, especially paired with that Allison. If unique is your thing, its an option. As far as you are with the 6.0 I'd just move forward. Better performance, fuel economy, and lighter weight. Unless you plan on towing or hauling really heavy loads uphill to utilize the 500+ lbs ft of torque, I don't see the 7.8 paying off with little more than a headache.

X2 I've never been impressed with them. I think TS Performance offers a chip for them that may help, but I'd go with the 6.6 V8 if I were wanting Isuzu power.

Re: Isuzu 6H / dmax lg4 7.8 swap

The 6H is very reliable, and some versions had decent power (300/860), but it is a large heavy engine. Much bigger than a Cummins B, about the size of a Cat C-7. Not a good swap choice for a pickup if you ask me.
