Just looking for some advice on my build. Ive got a 79 c10 stepside. Ive c notched and Z'ed the frame and it currently lays frame on 22" rims, my question is once I put the cab back on the frame, will i need to modify/cut away sections of the firewall so that the tyres do not rub. Ive measured the distance and it seems very tight! Has anyone had to do this to be able to fit 22's? Any advise or pictures would be much appreciated

I don't think the cab has any interference. I do kno the a/c has to go, and a few guys have re-routed their master cylinder. But there is the transmission tunnel you might have to deal with, too. Pics of what you have now will definetly help.

with 22's you usually need to bring the crossmember forward about an inch to clear. if you did that when you z'd it you should be good.

Cheers for the advice people, I think the problem is that I didn't move the crossmember forward when I z'ed it....nevermind! Just means more cutting. Lol. Will get some pics up of my build soon ;-). I've got a Facebook page dedicated to my build so will get some pics off of that.

If you buy porterbuilt a arms they move the wheels a inch forward and he can narrow them up to a inch and half if needed. http://www.porterbuiltfabrication.co...arting-at-1049

X2, the ac box on the firewall has to go away. Use hydroboost for the brakes, and you have to modify your trans tunnel depending only if you did a body drop.

Great looks, but not really necessary for couple hours of work on the lower portion of the firewall for the tires.

These plates are now fully welded in and when the bags are in the truck still lays frame :-). Will probably just modify the firewall to accommodate the wheels as this is probably the best option for myself.

I'm really pleased with the welding that my buddy has done, as for the bag plates....believe me these ain't thin bits of sheet, anything thicker would of been overkill.

I was being sarcastic about the plates. Actually the bag mounts, frame mods ect. look excellent! Hopefully mine looks half as good as yours. Great work dude! (this time I am being honest)

Lol....did wonder if you were. My buddy that is helping me is an excellent welder and engineer so all is turning out real nice so far.

You didn't mention what size tire your going to run, but more than likely you will need to tub the lower part of the cab.

by looking at the pic I think you may have to cup the lower control arm instead of plating over top of it.....if you want it to lay out.

So how are you planning on removing the top of the airbag since your upper plates are welded in?

Not an airbag guy myself, but won't the bottom of the cab/pinch weld hit the ground before the frame?

I've fitted the bags to see if it all fitted and it seems to be all good, layed out nice. When I measured the distance from the pinch weld to the floor it was the same from the bottom of frame to the floor so hopefully it will lay pinch....fingers crossed. Will add more pics once I get my ass in gear haha
