taller and/or wider tires on these stock rims?

Everyone is telling me to keep these because they are a classic look. I am starting to come around to the idea.

But the tires look lost in my wheel wells. Just too small for me.

What is the biggest/widest tire I can run on this rim? I think it's 15x7...

those are 15x6, you might could put 255/70/15 but its still going to look lost unless you add a lowering kit, stepsides are just that way

Re: taller and/or wider tires on these stock rims?

Buy some 15x8's or 15x10's for the rear, paint them white, keep the hub caps, 275/60/15's on the rear and 235/70/15's on those stock wheels in front. Put a 2" shackle on the rear and you are set. I know where there is a pair of 15x10's for sale not far from you.

Re: taller and/or wider tires on these stock rims?

I had 15x8's made for my Jimmy, they use stock GM OEM wheel centers and weld to new hoops at whatever backsacing you want (i had them 3.75" so they stuck out more)

http://www.trudesignwheel.net/

Im planning on doing the same for my 76 after I get a chance to start up my new engine (im in same boat as you and live in Houston too LOL)

still looks like way too much fendergap, 3/5 drop would be better, keep the fronts at 15x6 and go 15x10 rear imo

I'm a big fan of wide steelies w/stock trim. Especially with dog dish caps. Ditto what Frank said about 8's and 10's. Mine below is 10's all around, I should have gone with 8's up front.

Got anymore pics? I was thinking about running 10s all around, do the fronts rub?

Re: taller and/or wider tires on these stock rims?

No, they don't rub. That'd be an easier problem to fix, actually, if rolling the inner fender lip might fix it. I've got Wheel Vintique 15x10's all the way around and they only come with 4.5" backspacing. That's enough to put the inner lip of the wheel too close to the lower contol arm. I'm running an 1/8" spacer up front now. The engine I have almost ready to go in is a fairly stout 383 and the spacers bother me because I know I'll flog it some - I've never run a spacer before. I'm pretty sure I could trade two of the wheels for a factory set of 15x8 rally's to a guy that wanted 8's and 10's, but I've had these powder coated and I'd have to start over on the wheel finish if I did that trade. This is the only other picture I have at the moment. 275/60-15's up front and 325/50-15's rear, 2" Ground Force springs (from Summit) up front and 2" Western Chassis shackles in back.

You can get those 10in rallys in a back space other than 4.5in from Wheel Vintiques and Summit.

I got 6.5 & 10 on mine, most would say too small in the front and I would agree on a non lowered truck. 8 & 10 is realy a great all around choice IMHO if your going to run 15's.

Can you? I looked again, I don't see 15x10's with backspacing other than 4.5 or 5". Needs 4" to clear the front properly, or at least 4.25". Either way, they're fine on the back and look nice with 8's up front.

Re: taller and/or wider tires on these stock rims?

15x10 WV rallys only available in 4.5" or 5" backspacing and 15x8 only in 4" backspacing unless you have some custom made

BTW John, I think your 6.5 and 10's is a nice setup, thats why I suggested he just get wider rears and keep the fronts with new tires all around

Re: taller and/or wider tires on these stock rims?

When I got my sub it had 31/10.50/15s on the back on factory aluminum 5 spoke 15x6.5s. As far as wider my uncle has 275/60/15s on the factory ford wagon wheel, 15x7 I think, on the back of his '84 Ford F150 stepside.

Stock 8in rallys have a 4.25bs, as well as the 6.5in van rallys. You may have to call WV, SW, or Summit to special order anything other than 4.5 or 5in bs on the 10in wheel.
