Pics of alternator and wires on 84?

Need close up of alternator wires on 84 models. Some weird reason there is no fairly large wire coming off my alternator main feed. It has 2 little red wires and one is going to the msd box. This wiring is messed up.

Shouldn't there be a fairly good size wire coming off the alt. to the battery?

Not sure if you can see the wires or not. I have 2 small maybe 14ga wires coming off the main alt. feed one is going to the msd box and other looks like it goes back to firewall. Battery pos. goes to starter.

Re: Pics of alternator and wires on 84?

OK, I looked it up and guess this is right. Problem is seems I have low voltage around 12v running and less with anything on. Windows run slow, wipers run slow, turn signals go slow. Can I run a large wire from the + on alt. over to Battery + ? I want to add bigger wire on everything to get better voltage etc. Going tomorrow to have alt. checked for proper voltage etc and battery condition. Just seems something is wrong!

My truck isn't running but everything is still intact but I will take a couple shots between showers.

I always run a heavy guage wire from the positive post on the Alt to the battery positive side on all my Chevy trucks. It ensures a good feeed to the Battery and dont hurt nothin that I can see.

The OEM schematics show both red wires - the field excitation (in the harness clip) and battery charge (with the little boot) leads as being 3 mm. That would translate to 12 gauge wire under the AWG system.

The brown wire - that is also in the clip (drives the dash indication) shows as 1mm = 16 gauge AWG.
