Can i use I6 engine brackets for my 5.3L swap?

Guys

I have a 71 that used to be an I6/3 speed manual. Guy before me put a V8/TH350 in it.

Guess he used the I6 motor brackets... V8 seemed to be happy there. even though the jackhole didnt bolt the bottom hole of the drivers side bracket to the crossmember

So, i wanted to know... can i use these I6 engine brackets with my 5.3/4L60e or do i need V8 ones?

thanks guys!
jeff

hello. i havent tried, but im sure you can use the i6 mounts. my 350 used the i6 mounts when i bought my 71 c10. i was unable to access anything because the 350 was too close to the fire wall. thats when i decided to mount my lq4 in the v8 holes and use the v8 mounts. if it were me, i would use the v8 holes/v8 mounts. good luck.

I just did this. I has a 350/350 in the 6cyl location. I made my adapter plates that slide the engine up the furthest, everything fit including the driveshaft. I have not made my exhaust yet but it fits nicely with the towers.

I used I6 perches in the v8 spot, and then used the swap plates to put the engine where I wanted for engine cover and coil pack clearance.

let me ask you guys this... with these truck motor mounts (the one bolt coming up from the back) are they as safe as say the ones that you put a big bolt through (like on a camaro)? I do have the prothane interlocking truck mounts, but im thinking of using the POL stands and getting the other style mount.

Thoughts?

Re: Can i use I6 engine brackets for my 5.3L swap?

I have my 5.3 mounted with the 6 cyl stands. I mounted them in the back holes on the frame. Used the 68 V8 engine rubber mounts mounted to adapter plates made frome internet pattern. The engine sits back good. Used 4l60e from 2005 silveado. The tranny crossmember had to be moved forward about 2 inches maybe. I used Doug Thorley headers that dumped pretty close to the tranny crossmember, so had to use 2 ich exhaust with pretty tight ninety degree bend to clear. Also required Lokar cable shifter to use column shifter. Headers blocked mechanical linkage. Get the longer cable if you go this route. Not as tight bends. Good luck. Jim
