Like an idiot, I flashd myself TWICE (DOH!) before I realized I had to turn it on manually inside the hood where the darkness adjustment is. It actually clicks from Off to On. Once I turned it on - and I hadn't used it in months - it worked perfectly.

My cheapo helmet has the same thing and I have been flashed several times, mostly by my wife. My good helmet has a "welding mode" and a "grinding mode". I try not to get mixed up. I don't use it for grinding, but I use the "grinding mode" for plasma cutting.
