Talking Getting my 350 transformed !!!!

Ok here is the short of it.... After having a miss and finding out I blew the head gasket at the #8 cylinder, the guys down at the awesome ADS in chandler are building me a monster out of the gm crate I've been running for about 3 years. I couldn't resist.

Mahl pistons, forged crank, retro roller set up with a comp cam and rockers, dart pro 1 platinum heads (dual springs), dart dual plane intake, eddy 750 carb, the block is of course getting clearanced, bored .030 over, magnafluxed and painted, new oil pump, MSD dist, it will be dyno tuned and should be close to the 500 mark. I can't wait. They have the block at the machine shop already. I will send pics when I get down there next week.

Re: Getting my 350 transformed !!!!

Well I know they are putting a 400 crank in it so I guess it's getting de-stroked.!! Haha. Yeah it will be a 383.

Cool, I'm gonna check out your build. I'm new to the engine building and what is best to use together as far as parts, so I let them pick out everything. They came highly recommended.

Re: Getting my 350 transformed !!!!

Thanks goater. Yeah, with all new Callie's rotating assembly, machining, assembly, reinstall just under 10k. Basically the block is the only thing not new, but it was cleaned up and ultra sonic tested. I can't wait!!!!

Re: Getting my 350 transformed !!!!

Hey Goater, I received a phone call on Friday and they have the engine in the truck and fired it up. I was hoping after the dyno tune and working the bugs out, this Thursday. I'm gonna call again in the morning. I feel the same as you brother with the excitement!!!!! Oh by the way, it's going in the 72. I have a vortec 350 in the 68.

Re: Getting my 350 transformed !!!!

It should be around 10.7:1 to 11:1, or at least that's what they estimated with the dart supplied gasket and mahl pistons. The pro 1 heads I'm using are 64cc heads.

Re: Getting my 350 transformed !!!!

Sounds like a great motor, hope a lot of that HP and torque are in a RPM range you can use on a regular bases. Looking forward to seeing the dyno results.

Re: Getting my 350 transformed !!!!

I hope so too. I asked that question when they started the build and told me that it should start making good hp at 1500 all the way to 6000. I did call this morning and it is on the dyno as we speak!!!!! Whoo Hooooooo!!!

Those are flat top pistons, so that may impact your compression ratio, some. If you are expecting to drive daily, then with a 10:1 compression, you will have issues with fuel and detonation. The aluminum heads will help, but the quality of fuels today is going to be your sore spot.

Re: Getting my 350 transformed !!!!

Goater, they ended up doing the exhaust first. My hodge podge mixture of 2-1/4" to 2-1/2" wasn't cutting it.

Stickman..... right where th3 e 202 and i10 meet, on chandler blvd.

Re: Getting my 350 transformed !!!!

Ok, they finished the exhaust and started the chassis dyno tuning this morning. As of right now it is laying down 352 ft/lbs at the wheels. John at ADS said they are gonna keep tweaking and they almost have the air/fuel perfect. He said it will still increase as the motor breaks in. I think I'm cool with the results so far. I'm not worried about hp ratings and I hope it does pick up some. They did get the exact numbers on comp ratio and it came in at 10.2:1. That's perfect I think. Any thoughts people?
