My $215 Mistake
My dad used to always tell me to put a piece of plywood in front of the radiator if I was working on the engine. I would, when he was around. I will ALWAYS do it now.
The math works like this: 1 slightly stuck pulley + 1 too hard tug + stupidity/laziness = $215 at the parts store. It's amazing how my dad keeps getting smarter the older I get.

Last time I did that the radiator was ok but I had some really bloody knuckles.

I now use an old piece of cardboard on the radiator but a piece of plywood, even a thin 1/4" one is a great idea.
If you work on mechanical stuff for any length of time you will screw up. I can't begin to count the times I cussed myself for being a dum@$$. I did the radiator trick a few years ago. IIRC, I was adjusting the alternator belt and had the 1/2 inch wrench slip out of my hand. As I tried to catch it, it bounced of the fan and nicked the radiator. A ten minute job turned into a whole day affair having to drain the coolant, remove it, take it to a radiator shop, reinstall and refill it.

I could have gotten it welded, but I could see the mineralization on the coolant tubes (not sure if that's the correct terminology). Some of the tubes were completely clogged. Seemed like a good time to get a new one.
