Re: flowmaster muffler

Sound depends on your motor, but there's a flowmaster 50 series sound clip here for the v6 GMC. Just look halfway down the page.

Personally I'm going to go with something quieter. They're more expensive but I want to be able to hunt with my truck and not wake up the neighbors. Happy neighbors make good friends.
Unhappy neighbors can make life very unhappy.

Re: flowmaster muffler

I have one 2 1/4 in and 2 1/4 out long round muffler, it sounds great. I will try and get you a video and post it. it isn't loud like a glasspack but isn't as quiet as stock either..... just enough you can hear it but no so much it is loud

Re: flowmaster muffler

Don't go Flowmaster. It will sound awful with a 6-cylinder, and you'll get tired of the drone at highway speeds real quickly. Get a packed muffler like a Magnaflow or a Dynomax. They sound so much better, and they will make more hosepower than a Flowmaster. Honestly, Flowmasters are probably the most over-rated muffler on the market.

Re: flowmaster muffler

Dynomax X
250CID.
To much noise inside the cab when cruzin. Going to install a second one to try and quiet it down.

Re: flowmaster muffler

how do you pick a muffler that you don't no how it will sound? what if you spend a decent buck on a muffler and you don't like it? you can't just keep spending money searching for the right tone/sound. what's a person to do?

Ask the old man at the muffler shop. If he has doing mufflers all these years he can point you in the right direction. Saved me from too much exhaust. I had issues with the Dynomax mufflers on big block Sub and 40ft of pipe (duals) . I wanted a quite muffler but got used to sound. Not bad but My fault ran out of 2.5" pipe (4 sticks) so two 10 ft sticks of 3" was used from front to mufflers. But a muffler with packing will stop a lot of drone.

Re: flowmaster muffler

my exhaust system is all brand new from manifold to tail pipe. it's a 292 motor , and the pipe is 2" all the way. it has a stock quiet muffler on it. i would just like a little rumble nothing serious.

Thats easy, go to the muffler shop that sells the ones your interested in. When he cuts off your old one, start your truck, he can slip each one on while its running. Rev it and listen, try another and another one.. simple the muffler shops prices on mufflers are a little higher but worth the extra to hear what they sound like on your engine. Call around and ask some of the shops if they will do that for you. Should be no problem at all..

Glass packs? I have glass packs out both sides, 24". At first it was a little loud but you get used to the sound. In fact, they've grown on me and I look forward to the sound everyday.. Have had several tell me how good it sounds. Good luck

Arrow Re: flowmaster muffler

For a deeper sound from that I6 a chambered muffler such as the Flowmaster will do the trick along with a Manifold/Split Headers & Dual Exhaust combo.
http://www.americanclassic.com/asp/d...to&exyear=1957

Flowmasters..... Differences in 1, 2, and 3 chamber mufflers?
1 Chamber - aggressive tone.
2 Chamber - moderate tone.
3 Chamber - mild tone.
