Exclamation Woodgrain vinyl removal

I have a decent set of door panel inserts for my 72 Cheyenne that I want to restore but am unsure of how to start by getting the old vinyl off it chips but not very much so I was wondering if there is and old trick of the trade to getting this stuff off? Thank you for any help/advice

Re: Woodgrain vinyl removal

Woodgrain vinyl decal or woodgrain pattern on vinyl upholestery? A pic could help with answers if possible.
Eather way I would guess it could come off by using a heat gun (carefully) to loosen the adhesive. Then you could peel it off in sections.

Re: Woodgrain vinyl removal

The vinyl decal in the door panel inserts themselves sanding has worked so far today but thy could be tedious I asked another member and he also suggested paint remover to get it down to bare metal like I want

Re: Woodgrain vinyl removal

We put ours in a blast cabinet and stiped them then primed and painted.

Re: Woodgrain vinyl removal

That looks amazing Tim I'm going something similar to Ostander's process of sanding them with varying grits but instead of wood grain replication ill be going with a simple semi gloss or even somewhat flat black with polished trim in the process of hand sanding the vinyl of now
