Re: 69 Chevelle Fuel Tank Install
I used some adjustable tie down straps to mock it up, proved really helpful in being able to re-position the tank and I must have changed that 6-8 times....

Re: 69 Chevelle Fuel Tank Install
From these pics you can see that my filler neck is going to be too high with the tank flush up against the frame. My goal is to have this tank as high as possible, so I don't want to space it down.... the third pic is the space I'd have if I have the neck lined up as is....

Re: 69 Chevelle Fuel Tank Install
This tank doesn't hang down very low does it?

Re: 69 Chevelle Fuel Tank Install
You may notice the tank in different positions... I at one point had it even with the end of the frame rails and decided I wanted a little more space from the bumper and the tank. I would not recommend buying the straps that are designed to mount the Chevelle tank as they do not work on their own.... I got 2 4' straps and a piece of angle iron from Home Depot for $23..... that roll of stuff is camper tape that I used instead of the cardboard type anti squeak....

Re: 69 Chevelle Fuel Tank Install
Last few pics for now, you can see that the tank does not hang too low... this truck is stock height for now, but will end up with a 4-5" drop in the back. I am not going to fill it just yet, I may have a radiator shop braze the neck back together.... any comments appreciated! Still have to finish up the fuel line, but for now it will just be tied into the original line under the cab with a filter in between.....

Re: 69 Chevelle Fuel Tank Install
Looks great, but one question. Is there a baffle or stop of some sort that keeps the gas from flowing out the back end on take-off? I have that same type of gas cap on the in-cab tank, but fuel still spills out when I turn to the right.

Re: 69 Chevelle Fuel Tank Install
I'm wondering this as well. When you take off where is all that gas going to go?

Re: 69 Chevelle Fuel Tank Install
Yet to be determined on this one, other guys have installed this same tank with no problems..... the cap is a non-vented one.... will make adjustments as needed though.

Re: 69 Chevelle Fuel Tank Install
Is the tank resting on the cross sills or spaced?

Re: 69 Chevelle Fuel Tank Install
No problems with filling the tank, no leaks out the cap. My son is driving it like this for a bit, so he can work on the back of the cab/front of bed at school....

Re: 69 Chevelle Fuel Tank Install
Has this been done to a SWB? Those wondering about fuel coming out, I have a 66 GTO, trust me I stomp on it, no fuel lose except what goes down the tri power!
