My 68 CST dash has the hole for the manual choke, of course, but since I've got the fancy, Rube Goldberg-esqe bi-metal manifold choke thingamajigger it doesn't have a choke knob. Instead, I've got a chrome cover with two square holes (perfect for a spanner wrench of some sort). It also appears to have a little, black, rectangular cover to hide the "Choke" lettering.

It appears like there may have been something attached to the chrome piece to hide those spanner holes. Was there? If so, what did (does) it look like and can I get one?

From the factory there would have been a rectangular (nearly square) badge that read "GM". It was chrome with black letters. They are somewhat rare as they were only installed in auto choke vehicles (327 and 396 4bbl). This badge was attached to steel behind bezel via a threaded nut similar to how the wiper or light switches are afixed. I'm not sure what you're describing but it does not sound correct to me.

I have a nice one I gladly paid $30 for. Sorry no pic however.

Hmmm... what I assumed might be holes for a spanner could very well be the spot a badge was attached. Mine may not be factory, but it sure looks like a GM piece.

shuttermutt,what you describe is the same that I have on my 68 also. I assumed that it was factory plug.

There are two styles and both have been described in this thread. There is the one that CPNE has described that has "GM" on it and there is the other one which requires the spanner wrench. It is black and has a texture on it similiar to the grain of the bezel (this texturing tends to wear off in places). Additionally, it is round where the "GM" style is square. I have both and can take pics if someone needs them.

I just pulled the "round" type out of my '68 CST donor truck tonight. It was a 327/T400 truck, so I guess that's why it got the plug.
I'll sell it if anyone needs one.

This is the best shot I have of mine for now. If needed I could snap a close up tomorrow with my digital camera. I don't feel like trudging out in the 5 inches of fresh snow right now.

BTW that thing is a PITA. How do you keep it from rotating in the hole? I'm forever straighting it up.
