Re: Ol John Lee is hurt
An unlicensed driver made a left in front of me....They are totaled I think. I have what looks like sheet metal damage to hood and LF/bumper, grill. Frame horn is torn at left front bumper bolts and bumper folded under and behind the left front wheel. Hood bent/canted. Hood jammed and engine stuck at full throttle so, have to call insurance now and get that ball rolling. Not sure how much more I can say and will delay pics till insurance company clears me further. Should have it home in a week to pry up the hood and start assessing. I'm guessing suspension damage to that spanky new front end as the drivers front hub cap is flat as a pancake and the tire popped. Looks like insurance is sound on their end so, gonna turn it over to insurance tonight. Right now, w/o a deep look I'm thinking get it back, air up the tire and suspension check. Its my daily driver and even if I have to drive it looking snaggle toothed for a while that'll be fine. But, I'm guessin this is gonna be a long slow process to settlement. Lords Blessings, everyone in both vehicles is home for dinner and nothing more than a couple of replaceable objects damaged.

Re: Ol John Lee is hurt
Thanks all. I'll try to get him home tomorrow and post up pics. Get the hood pried open and as soon as the insurance adjuster looks it over I'm gonna air up the tire and try to get to the shop for a suspension check. I think if its okay there, I can rig up a headlight and hit the road while we work out the details with the insurance company.

Re: Ol John Lee is hurt
I think Ol John Lee will be okay. I should have him home in the garage this weekend and get some pics up. Some sheet metal, all avalilable after market based on first look. Get the hood up and check the motor mounts. Sure is a tuff old truck compaired to this new stuff we're drivin. A wheel and a road check and then a suspension/frame check and we'll move out from there. Thanks all for the concern. Watch out for them other folks out their, seems these days most folks just aim instead of pilot!
All I can say, and this ain't the Safety Manager in me talkin, sure am damn glad I put seatbelts in him and use them all the time. Otherwise, I think I'd been on the passenger side floor. |

Re: Ol John Lee is hurt
I just noticed, Ol John Lee sorta has a snaggle tooth look, just like my white german shepherd. Hmmmm....trucks and dogs and owners look alike?

Re: Ol John Lee is hurt
I'll repeat what has already been said - glad everyone is okay and the rig seems repairable. Make sure to check for any cracks in the control arms, motor mounts, etc.
It really sucks when you're out minding your own business and get clobbered. I lost a 67 Chevelle that way years ago. And just before we moved to Idaho my wife got hit in our truck by an unlicensed driver. It did somewhat the reverse damage to yours, it snagged the front bumper and pulled it forward about 18" and dented the front fender. By comparison it tore most of the front end off the "new" car.

Re: Ol John Lee is hurt
Oh yeah. that doesn't look too bad at all. It'll buff right out
Hopefully the insurance company will cover most of the parts etc. and thank goodness the parts for that corner are readily available.

Re: Ol John Lee is hurt
Well, I been lookin at sheet metal in the catalogs already. Prolly get in touch with a board member here that lives close, see if he has a good front grill surround and bumper. Fender, I'll prolly go new. Looks like the hood is gonna be fine as is. An unchromed grill will be hard to find, I like the battered white look. Chrome don't get ya home!

Re: Ol John Lee is hurt
Ol John Lee is home and safe in the garage. Initial photo tour of his damage follows. He sucked up a good hit and it ain't all home repair, at least not in my garage. But, so far, it all looks fixable. Here we go.
Left front, you'll notice, no visible damage to the cowl, doors or firewall in these first three photos. Bumpers in the way though. Hood looks pretty good, but the grill and grill shell/nose is a gonner...its all torn along with the left front fender. Drivers side headlight needs aimed again. Drivers side inner fender bent up front. Drivers side wheel took one strong hit...I'll show ya the frame later. |

Re: Ol John Lee is hurt
Crap, that was the original 1964 fan shroud...5 breaks in it now.
Passenger side headlight mounts sheared off. Yep, thats an original T3 light, I think it still works! Hood latch assembly upper and lower stretched and bent. Sheared passenger front motor mount. I did manage to get the old bumper out of the way so I can install the spare and get this old boy started and rolling. Passenger side frame horn, initial fix completed with the smasher wacker to close the crack for welding....oh yeah, I can't weld beyond gorilla welding with an arc and coat hanger... Drivers side frame horn, also initially repaired with a smashwack for welding. A little better look at the bends in the drivers side inner fender. More comeing, stand by. |

Re: Ol John Lee is hurt
Glad to see you are ok. Man she looks like she took a pretty good hit - the frame I guess is really the part you can't do at home - I'd want to know that baby is straight... the rest is just coming up with the right parts. Glad you all made it out unscathed.
