Yep big things going on there these days. Once that long bed is off the lift, Gumby starts moving ahead full steam!

Last year the debut was the gray 55 Pre A sunroof car. Ill tell you though, shiny paint cars are a major pain in the ass to keep clean... These cars just sit in the garage under a cover and only come out for show days. Pretty to look at but not much in the way of usability. Thats why I have gumby! Hope you guys dig them.

Nice Porsche's! I'll agree with Rus though, not as cool as Gumby.

Re: Crushing Gumby 71 Shortbed Patina build
Very nice, love the old 356's! My first car was a '74 914 that my dad and I put a lot of work into and got back on the road. Not the most beautiful of the Porsche models, but I loved it and had a blast driving it.
Sorry to sidetrack... Can't wait to see more of Gumby! |

But.... back to trucks Im going to have my stock grille stripped and repolished since its very dull and the anodizing is milky... It is dent free so I would rather just keep it and not run a reproduction part if I don't have to... As for the center section, I think I will buy a replacement section as mine is pretty worn. So... should I repaint the black section around the headlights or leave it off? My current grille has some black still on it but I kind of like it without it. What do you guys think?

I'm a stickler for original style. I vote paint it like original.

Re: Crushing Gumby 71 Shortbed Patina build
hmmm ok well maybe I will have to repaint the Black back onto the grille. Honestly, I don't see many people doing that so that may be the reason for me to do so.

Re: Crushing Gumby 71 Shortbed Patina build
I just think it "flows better" with the factory black arount the headlights on the '71-'72 trucks.

Re: Crushing Gumby 71 Shortbed Patina build
I really like the ''71 only" black stripe, that goes completely around the grille.
This is a picture of an original paint grille. These normally fade away thru the years.

I've also seen body color in the ring around the headlights, that looks pretty cool. I doo like the off-set that the dark ring gives.

Re: Crushing Gumby 71 Shortbed Patina build
Very cool photos Keith, thanks! I like the single black outline on the headlights best, the 71 only style looks a bit over the top to me. I think I will be going the single outline route. Off the polisher!!!

Re: Crushing Gumby 71 Shortbed Patina build
Sounds like a good plan. I'm not a fan of the 71 only stripe either. It's not on mine, and it won't be put back on as long as I own it... not the way I have my build planned as of now anyway.

Re: Crushing Gumby 71 Shortbed Patina build
Yeh I agree, it looks a little bit to Bumble Bee stripped to me too. Its cool, but its just not for this project I feel. I will be heading up to Delmos this week so some more photos will be coming soon.

Re: Crushing Gumby 71 Shortbed Patina build
Well its been a busy week for me, but I made it up to Delmos to grab some things I need for the 65 and check out Gumby. Progress is good. Body is very very close to being ready to go back on the chassis. Air cleaner is done and on, valve covers are done and on. Air lines are done.
New brakes in the rear to match the fronts. Im digging the accuair equipment mounted in the back. We are going to hang the battery in a custom box off the passenger side rear frame rail so its easy to get to in case I ever need to access it.
