Need quick help identifying electric fan.
Sorry for the dire sound, but I found an electric fan on Craigslist for 50.00. Guy says it is a 2 speed mark7 fan. Pulled it out of a 97 Lincoln. I'm confused because it has a white plug and 3 wires, red, blue, black. I thought all the two speeds had 4 wires and a black connector. Should I buy this or not? Is it the right 2 speed fan? I need a high and low since I have ac. I've read some used variable voltage to control the fan, is this one of those? Im suppose to go get it in 2 hours. Thanks for the last minute help!

Re: Need quick help identifying electric fan.
If it actually came out of a 97 Lincoln it would be a two speed fan because of the AC and only one fan. Like you I would have figured another wire unless the Lincoln has a relay that kicks in causing the higher speed when the air is on.

Re: Need quick help identifying electric fan.
Thanks for the input guys! I went and checked it out. It is a variable speed fan. Won't work for me without a controller, which I don't want to buy if my ls computer will control a 2 speed fan.
So this is what I figured out about mark VIII fans: White plug with inspection port----single speed White plug without inspection port---- variable speed Black plug---------2 speed Hope this helps out somebody else. Shawn Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Need quick help identifying electric fan.
Just looked at a close up pic of a push pull fan on Jegs. It has only two wires into the fan and it is a single speed fan. So the three wires would give you a high output lead, low, and a ground. Sounds like that is what you are looking for.

Re: Need quick help identifying electric fan.
Not quite Sammy. That's what I thought. For some reason there is a third wire that terminates inside the wiring harness and doesn't actually go to anything on some single speed fans. Goofy right?

Re: Need quick help identifying electric fan.
Agreed logic doesn't work here. hmm. Maybe on the Lincoln they had too many 2 wire connection plugs n decided to make it idiot proof then.
