My 69 Chevy build thread
I decided to start a build page. I found my truck in Alabama, and drove 12 hours round trip to pick it up. I am going to link the expired ebay auction since it is the only pictures I have at the moment. The weather is bad here, I will get some better ones as soon as I get it unloaded.
I am not sure which direction I will go yet. Either pull it apart and go through the whole truck, or pull it down far enough to get it roadworthy and have a driveable project. Regardless, I want to fix the wholes in the firewall, the passenger rocker, and the door gaskets to keep the fumes out. I will be pushing the envelope a bit, being I do not have any experience welding. I will soon though. All suggestions, comments, good or bad are welcome! http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewi...w=190792360735 Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: My 69 Chevy build thread
Loading it on the trailer, I noticed the brakes were extremely spongy, steering was ridiculously stiff, and the truck is seriously cold natured. P/o was spraying a bunch of starter fluid in the carb every time they started it. Supposedly to keep from grinding on the starter. I can't wait to get the truck off of the trailer, I am dying here!

Re: My 69 Chevy build thread
Happy Fat Tuesday everybody! Heading out for some fun today, I will try to snap a picture of the truck on the trailer. It was a really tight fit! After I recover from the festivities today, I will be unloading the truck some time this week. Since I am off this week, my wife says I am not to touch the truck until my honey-do-list is done. I asked her to let me know how that works out.

Re: My 69 Chevy build thread
I have been trying to upload pics for weeks from my phone. Decidied to do it from my desktop. I finally got it off of the trailer, and I have been going through the engine one step at a time. I wanted to make sure the motor was in good shape first.
Compression check, cold motor, plugs out, throttle open The rest of these pictures are from the day I unloaded it. Got an oil pressure guage installed yesterday. Should have been a quick job, but it wasn't. I also have a temp guage and a vaccum guage to install as well. The port in the head for tempguage is plugged, and painted over. Someone tried to remove it, and stripped out the head of the plug. Is there a secondary location for a temp probe? As for the vaccum guage, I have no idea where to hook that one up! Re: My 69 Chevy build thread
Craked and exposed wiring underneath the dizzy. I found one on summit with hei for $89.99.
Its up against the firewall also Throttle linkage Any suggestions on a secondary port for a temp gauge, unless I can get this one out. Dropping the headers and using a pipe wrench is an option, if there is enough sticking out Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: My 69 Chevy build thread
My main focus has been on the motor. I wanted to make sure it was healthy enough for the road. Comp check and oil pressure are good. I need to get the temp gauge installed due to no fan shroud. It is suppose to be a 327 with a 350 behind it. I have not confirmed any of that yet, nor do I know how. I do know that I am unsettled. My desire is to make this a dd, commuting 60 miles a day. So mpg is high on the list, but I am also realistic. So I am wondering if a carb'd 327 is a keeper, or if I should upgrade to efi with o/d trans. Please offer any suggestions, as I am leaning towards a vortec 350 5.7 with an overdrive tranny. However, I am a huge fan of standard tranny's.

Re: My 69 Chevy build thread
For the strip plug get a square bolt that fits in there then weld it in there. Then two nuts tightened against each other.

Re: My 69 Chevy build thread
There is a large diameter rubber hose running from the vacuum port on the bottom of my carb to the driver side valve cover. Can I tap this line for a vacuum gauge?

Re: My 69 Chevy build thread
The last part I need for the carb comes in Thursday. Then I will get to see how much difference a choke makes. Im also going to move some vacuum lines around on the carb, see if it makes an improvement.

Re: My 69 Chevy build thread
For Temp. there should be another plug/port on the other head, same locatiion. You can tap the large diameter hose, but this is pcv and will contain crap that wouldn't be great for your gauge. T off of the manifold port that the Tranny is hooked to (Automatic right?).
