Re: Open wheel wheel?!

Be careful here in CA with an open wheel design if you plan to drive it anywhere. I was just busted by the CHP for having my wheels extend 3/4 of an inch beyond my fender. I tried to fight it but the ruling was...

"unless the vehicle in question came from the factory with exposed tires, it is illegal in this state".

My brother also just got busted on his rock crawler blazer for not having mud flaps. The reason on that one was that on any raised vehicle that the fender does not cover within 8 inches of the ground a mud flap is required. We argued that many stock trucks dont do that but the judge just said that stock trucks in this state could not be sold if above that restriction and if they are sold without mudflaps, the dealer could be held responsible as well as the owner.

We have some real hard-a$$es around here. I have a buddy who lives in Kern County and they have the same issues. Just be careful. Remember we live in communist california.

Re: Open wheel wheel?!

I don't personally think the late 1955-current trucks look good in open wheel design. I have seen some earlier trucks that looked decent though. Its just my opinion that the trucks are too big and square bodied to pull it off.

Re: Open wheel wheel?!

I think the '60s trucks have so much style. You can't take half the body parts off and still look good. The front clips are everything to those trucks and they are a huge design element that, to me, has to stay.

And NO added-on grill is going to look as cool as the stock one!

Re: Open wheel wheel?!

Those open wheeled designs applied to the 60-66 trucks would scare a hungry bulldog off of a meat wagon! Not my cup of tea for sure, but if you like it go for it.

Re: Open wheel wheel?!

If that's what you like man go for it! Some of those open wheel well designs look awesome! Besides if you don't like it you can always throw your front end back on if you don't hack it up right?

Re: Open wheel wheel?!

ya don't do it. Open wheel only works on a special handful of cars, most of which stopped being made in the 20's and 30's

Re: Open wheel wheel?!

MY OPINION is that it looks like a ramshackle collection of parts. If at the end of telling someone your vision you can say "and it wont even cost much because all the parts are dirt cheap", unless you are talking about a 32 ford you found in the woods, it will look dirt cheap.
