Where to buy bench seat hog rings and pliers?

When I ordered my seat cover, it didn't dawn on me that I'd need hog rings and pliers. They sell both at Brothers for a good price, but at this point shipping would cost more than the kit, and it would be a while before it gets here.

I've checked Home Depot, but theirs is for chain linked fences. Checked Harbor Freight, but they only carry the pliers.

Is there a brick and mortar store you know of that carries these?

My local tractor supply carries them. I don't know if you have any kind of a farm store near you or not. If you do give them a call.

Yeah, we have IFA, Cal Ranch, etc. Wont that just be chain link fencing stuff, vs interior rings?

That's a great idea though. Hadn't thought of that. Is there just a standard type ring I can ask them if they have?

All I know them by is hog rings. What is different about the fencing rings?

I've never used hog rings of any kind, so I'm trying to figure this out. I assumed when Home Depot said they are for fencing, that they must be different than interior rings, but maybe not.

This is a pic of the ones from Home Depot. Will that work?

Fence rings are larger and heavier wire. Automotive rings tend to be sharper as well. Try finding a on-line auto trim supplier. Good pliers are a must, cheap pliers are an absolute pita. If you want, email any item specific links for on-line or ebay and I'll take a look at them.

Harbor freight has these pliers

Would these rings work?

Re: Where to buy bench seat hog rings and pliers?

The Home Depot fence rings will not even fit in my automotive ring pliers. They are a heavier gauge wire than the automotive rings but I still ended up at a fence supply for rings that were bigger and a heavier wire (about 50%) for my dog anti-dig panels.
For automotive work you want a quality sharp ring that will close fairly easy with the ends passing not butting as it goes round.

They have different sizes at Home Depot. That last one I posted a link to is a small size 1. Would those not fit the harbor freight pliers?

The pliers might work. They may be too big at the tip end. The spring is a big help too. I'd buy some rings and run by HF to try a pair if they stock them. If they close the ring down to a round pencil size you are good to go. However the tips might need grinding, back toward the cups, to get into tight spots. Most pro pliers have a real high taper to make tips as small as possible. So forget any of the cast metal type pliers you see with a 1/8th or so flat ledge around the tip cups.

How did we end up without a Husky picture in a Mister-B thread?

Re: Where to buy bench seat hog rings and pliers?

A budy of mine needed some and went in to an upholstery shop and the guy gave him a bag for free. I would check an upholstery shop first for supplies, may not have pliers, but they should have plenty of the rings.

Re: Where to buy bench seat hog rings and pliers?

Did a little checking and found some KD pliers at amazon. The first link is for 3702 straight handle pliers and they also have a 3704 bent handle plus 3702 a set of both. Straight or bent is a matter of preference and working space (like under a progressive cover installation). Straight would be my default, if you need the excuse the set will cover about everything.

Where did you get your seat covers? Did you also get new foam? I am in need of a complete overhaul of my seats and am about to give it a go.

Thanks...Rick

I got it from Brothers. It was around $150 for a vinyl cover that's supposed to look stock

My foam seems fine, but when I start replacing the cover, if it needs foam or springs, I'll go to the junk yard for that

I just go to my upholstery guy and he'll get me anything I need. I've never had him get my tools but I'm sure he'd get them

Larry Dennis Company in Fort Worth Texas has it all. It is a textile compnay and they ship all over. I used to work there almost 20 years ago and still buy from them when I need something.

Brothers really pulled through, and did a nice touch with my order. Unbeknownst to me, they put a pack of hog rings and some pliers in the box with my seat covers that just got delivered!

Mark and the guys over in Corona do a great job. You can't ask for a higher quality part or better customer service.
