economy out of a carb
Looking for input on size more than brand. In the process of resurrecting the strait 6 4.1 in the 69 C10 Step right now. Looking for economy out of the whole set up. Recommendations?

Go with a quality rebuild of the stock carb.. Depending on how you drive it along with the gears and tires are going to be the biggest influence.

Those old monojet's that came stock will suck some gas. Economy wasn't a concern back then. There are plenty of carburetors that will yield better mileage, but finding the proper intake might be more of a problem. There are many 4bbl, and multiple carb manifolds available, but I don't know of any that would accept a 2bbl. I use one of these Holley 390 cfm 4bbl, and get very good mileage from a 305. It's the same four barrel that they spec for 6 bangers.

Someone retrofitted a EFI to a 6.I would think the 4 BBL manifold would accept the TBI set up from a 4.3 and be fairly ecoonomical.Keep in mind that no matter what you do for fuel economy that payback is usually a long long ways out.

throw a 2004r overdrive behind it. Drop your Highway rpms from 3000 to 1900. best way to save fuel I found so far. except now the truck does 70-75 too easy.

If you do deciede to get a rebuilt carb.Dont buy one from the local autozone.I got a qjet from them and had nothing but problems.I had to have it rebuilt again and the guy who rebuilt it said it shouldn't have been rebuilt the first time.It looked very crappy in there.
