Patina or new paint for my new 72 find?
Pretty cool 72 Custom Camper with leaf rear, power lok axle, 350, auto. Only rust is in the outer rockers and there are some dents to contend with but I cant decide whether to leave it patina'd or re-paint.
Definately need a driver side sport mirror and a stove pipe as both are missing plus someone changed out the steering column so will have to try to find a nice clean one for the green interior. Otherwise its all there and after a set of plugs some clean gas with sea foam added she runs smooth as can be. |

leave it and spend money on the drivetrain, brakes, suspension or interior. worry about the paint later when the patina fad is over. awesome truck.

I do too in a wierd sort of way. I know people actually pay to have vehicles done to look like this but on the other hand a new coat of aqua green would sour look good too.

Cool truck! Drive it and enjoy it!
Get everything mechanical sorted out first and then start worrying about the paint...I think that it's okay for an old truck to look like an old truck! Chris |

Re: Patina or new paint for my new 72 find?
It depends on what you want out of the truck. My Burb and short bed are both original paint like this truck and will stay tht way as long as they can. It sure is nice not to worry about the paint. I took the burb to its first car show last week and watched a guy bang his huge ring on the paint job of someone else's Cobra and I almost fell out. I don't have those worries.

Re: Patina or new paint for my new 72 find?
6 PATINA 2 PAINT IT
We'll see where this goes. Some interesting facts though. This truck has 40k on the odo. Bone stock under the hood and look at the seat. Exhaust is original with original clamps and hangars except the tail pipe rotted off at the last hangar. Verry little wear on the pedals too. 40k original? man I highly doubt it but no way of knowing for sure as it came out of an estate sale in CO. |

Re: Patina or new paint for my new 72 find?
I think patina is just a fad...kinda like flat painted harleys. Seems everyone has one now but will become as popular as chinese toothpaste
fresh paint & fresh chrome NEVER go out of style..PAINT IT |

Re: Patina or new paint for my new 72 find?
I guess the nice part about the patina being a fad is it has it and if it goes out of style I can paint in then. In the meantime I am in style for the first time in my life...LOL!

Are you planning on keeping this truck for an extended period of time?

Re: Patina or new paint for my new 72 find?
i would definitely fix those rockers soon if i was you, and any other rust there might be. you could have fresh paint blended in on the areas that need attention. otherwise, polish it up a bit and bury that original paint in a few coats of clear to give it some protection and make it really shine!

Re: Patina or new paint for my new 72 find?
I was going to ask the same question as above. How are you going to patina the fresh new outer rockers?

Re: Patina or new paint for my new 72 find?
The dealer tag tells me the truck was at least in Colorado at one time. That dealership is now called Century Chevrolet.
Cool truck and since you asked, I'd keep the Patina....took a long time to get that way and I like the way it looks.
