Gas Cap Problems
I have a 68 C20 that I replaced the gas cap on a couple of weeks ago because the old one leaked a little. My replacement was defective because when I opened it up, a whoosh would come from out of the tank. I had that one replaced yesterday and it does the same thing. Did I get two bad caps or do I have the wrong one? Its from Stant part no.10623 I believe. Thanks.

sounds like youve got a non vented cap that builds pressure, the woosh when you open it, sometimes theyll cause a leak in your cab where the sending unit goes in if you fill your tank, you need a vented cap, ive taken the middle out of the non vented caps before and used them without any problems,

I just looked it up on Stant's website and 10623 is the correct cap, I guess I just got another junk one.

If all else fails try a locking cap, #10491. I have one on my pickup and suburban, never had any trouble with them.

I've wondered about this too. My gas cap is for non vented non ECC tank and will swoosh too. Not sure that it's not supposed to because there is a warning that "contents maybe under pressure".
