Is anyone running a harwood fiberglass hood?

I thought they made a strut kit or some sort of springs to hold open the hood. I called and they said they don't offer anything for it. They recommended a prop rod. I know you can't use the factory springs. I am not keen or running the prop rod. I can just see it now. At the car show with hood propped up a wind comes along and rips the dang thing off. Just wanted to see what others use if anything. I am thinking about selling it if I can't find something and just go buy a goodmark steel cowl hood. Should probably do that anyway.

Theres your best choice. From what I know all the glass hoods that are light weight are not strong enough to use springs or struts. Those that are strong enough are not any lighter than a steel hood. Combine that with the fit and finish issues and a glass hood isn't your best choice.

Yeah that is what I have pretty much been thinking. The back corners are already chipped just from standing the hood up on the floor but not bad. I like it and have had it on another truck in the past but just having one of those feelings about it.

Re: Is anyone running a harwood fiberglass hood?

I have a Hardwood 4 inch on my dually and it bolts up to the factory hinges and also has holes for the factory springs but I'm not running them cause of tire clearance....I use a Louisville Slugger at shows to hold my hood up....and the hoods are tough mine went thru my windshield when the latch released going down the road and didnt hurt it.....but the goodmark hoods fit better imo

http://www.vfnfiberglass.com/site.htm

From what I hear they make some really awesome fitting hoods. I was going to get a pin in style then have it wrapped in red carbonfibre Mat
I've seen pool use old camshafts to prop up thier hoods. But they are also light enough just to throw in your bed

Re: Is anyone running a harwood fiberglass hood?

I have a 4" Harwood cowl hood on my Camaro. It uses the gas shocks. That's weird they wouldn't have any for the trucks.

And I will 2nd the VFN hoods. They fit great.
