Gas Gauge - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have been restoring a 1977 C-10 for 4 years. I am putting the dash back together and have encountered a problem. I installed a new gas tank, sending unit/float, wiring and gauge. I wired the gauge straight to the truck as I am using a combination of factory and aftermarket gauges. I ran a switched hot to the gauge, a ground and a wire to the sending unit at the tank. The tank sending unit has a good ground. I put about 8 gallons of fuel in the truck and the gauge is reading full. Any suggestions or anyone know what I have done wrong?

do the gauge and the sender use the same ohm range?

X2 on that. If you have an aftermarket gauge it could be setup for some other sender.

1973-1991 squares use 0-90Ω senders.
I believe the 1967-1972 were 0-90Ω.
The 1947-1965 fuel senders were 0-30Ω.
1966 could be either but I'd bet its 0-30Ω. I've read both...

AMC, IH, Ford, Jeep, and Chrysler use different ohmages.
