Trading Overtime, my build thread
I decided that i wanted to go ahead and start my build thread.
I have named it "Trading Overtime", because i have done a ton of trading to get the truck.....and all of the parts that are purchased for it are funded by overtime. I started off with a $200.00 tahiti jet boat, and i put a little money into each and traded on up from there (jetboat w/455, yz250 dirt bike, custom built chopper, 04 mustang gt convertible 5spd and now my 70 c10) My friends all say that i need my own tv show....hahaha! More to come... |

alright....here are some pics
this is the only pic of the 200 dollar jet boat i have (in the middle of some work that i was doing) here is a pic of the dirt bike (i had 2....the yz250 is the blue bike in the background) This is also a pic of the chopper pretty raw here is a pic of the 99% finished chopper here is a pic of the 04 mustang And finally.....what you've been waiting for.....here is the 70 c10 the day i picked her up (about 5 months ago) |

So after i got the truck home, i decided to order the heater core and all of the heater duct gaskets. I got those installed (no pics)i then haveordered a bunch of parts since then. (and i just started installing them this past weekend)....the parts i have ordered to date that are still sitting in their boxes on my garage floor are the following
-front disc brake conversion with slotted rotors -2.5 inch drop spindals for the front -3 inch drop springs for the front -Rear c notch kit -set of axel perches and since my truck is a leaf spring truck, i am going to be doing a rear axel flip kit so that the axel is now resting on the leafs instead of underneath them. And i found that i already have a 2 inch drop shackle in the rear so that should put me at 5.5/7-8 drop over all i plan on running a different wheel/tire combo (20x10) |

Since i wanted to convert my truck to a fleetside, i posted an ad on craigslist locally for my bed. I had it posted for best offer...there were the usual flakes that you have to deal with from that site. But you just learn how to sift through them after a while. So i had it set up for this guy to come out and look at the bed of my truck Saturday 4/6 @9am. I got a call at 8am that morning from a guy that lived in Yreka (near the oregon border.....and im 45 min away from San Francisco), and he said that he was REALLY interested in my bed and would pay what ever i wanted....well in the back of my mind, i knew that this guy coming was going to give me $450 for my bed. And to put a new bed together with a steel floor was going to cost close to $5k after shipping. So the guy from Yreka asked why i wanted to get rid of the bed since it was in good shape, and i told him...... So then he told me that he had a fleetside that he wanted to convert to a stepside and he would be up for a straight over trade......BOOO-YAAA! So i told him to send some pics of it to me via email....and the bed was in really good shape! so i borrowed my neighbors trailer and drove to meet him last thursday. We split the journey in half so it was fair for the both of us...He drove south 2 hours and i drove north 2 hours. We met, traded beds and parted friends. It was an overall GREAT experience. heres a pic for you guys |

This past weekend i decided to get the rear end done because the bed was already off and there probably wouldnt be a better time to do it.
Let me say first....it was really hard (mentally) to cut my frame being that i have never done anything like that before...But after looking back on the whole situation....it was pretty easy. For those of you that are going to try this yourself for the first time, a good word of advice is like the old saying goes....Measure twice and cut once.....but in this case, i measured 10 times and cut once. And all i needed was my grinding wheel and my saws-all. before i cut after i cut after installing the c notch kit So there are a few things i didnt show.....thats only because i didnt take many more pics i took the leafs and all connecting hardware off...pressure washed them. let them dry, hit them with a wire wheel then pressure washed them again. Then after they dryed, i hit them with compressed air to make sure no loose dust/ debris was hanging on them...then i hit them with rattle can black gloss...they look awesome! i also cleaned and rattle canned the area around the c notch so it wouldnt get any surface rust while i was waiting to POR-15 the frame....after all i can wire wheel the paint off easily enough. |

Its been over a year, so it is about time to update my build thread. I have done quite a few things to the truck. So here we go
After doing the rear end with a cnotch and flip kit. I lowered the front by adding some 2.5" drop spindals and 3" drop springs. It brought the truck down a TON! I then added a new power booster, proportioning valve and a disc brake kit in the front. As well as replacing all of the ball joints, tie rod arms, bushings and idler and pitman arm. As well as the bushings for the sway bar. I also added a boyd rear mounted aluminum gas tank to the truck. And brushed/cleaned and prepped the rear portion of the frame and then coated it with POR-15. I had some problems at DMV so I had to take care of that. And then I took a break on the truck for a little while here are some pics This is how the truck sits now

After taking a few months off and doing my research on if I wanted to tackle the outside and then do the inside or vise versa.....I decided to go with doing the inside first.
So I then had my work cut out for me with planning every little detail of the interior. After numerous hours of reading through all the threads on here, I had a rough draft in my mind what I wanted my interior to look like. I decided to do my whole interior black while the outside was going to be blue. So I bought some single stage black high gloss paint and a spray gun. I ripped ALL of my interior out of the truck and saw a lot of the things that some of the previous owners have covered up. Like a HOLE RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF MY F@#$ING ROOF. I think it was for an antenna. So I have to patch that damn thing up now. But after prepping the interior metal and spraying 3 coats on it. It turned out great! I then had the fun task of wet sanding it to a mirror finish. Took the better part of a day, I got it done....and MANNNNN she is a shiner!! the way my interior looked before I gutted it you can see the hole a little in the center of the roof in this pic I found the original color of my truck.....not my style, but still kind of cool to see oh yeah, and I took my gas tank out of the cab another view gauge bezel is out too Tank is out after some prepping more prepping and more First coat of paint PAINTED! Dash before finish sanding

After I let the pain cure, I was able to lay the fatmat sound deadener down. I then was able to pull the gauges apart and refresh them. As well as give my stock gauges the brushed look. And I just picked up some 40-20-40 seats out of a 2007 Silverado!!!!!!
I am going to order a black leather kit for the seat tomorrow.... I will update my build thread as I go.....but just a little sneak peak. I have ordered a GMCPauls weatherstrip kit, a gallon kit of SPI black epoxy primer and a ton of other little goodies.

The leg room is actually not that bad.....I cant sit straight legged. But im 6'2", so straight legged in this truck is out of the picture.
All in all, with just the test fit, it was pretty comfy

My SPI epoxy primer came in this past Friday night. So I busted out the tape and plastic and spent the evening masking everything off and cleaning up some wiring under the dash....
If none of you have looked under your dash yet....you need to go take a look!! I had some bad wiring under there! There was one wire that had been cut 4 times and put back together with 4 wire nuts . So I made the decision that down the road, im going to get all new wiring harness for the whole truck. Saturday, my buddy Nate came over and helped me rough up the truck with a TON of sanding. The truck didn't go all the way down to bare metal (in some spots it did), because as I stated before....this coat is just to make my truck the same color. Its not meant to be some award winning paint job. It will stay this way for a year or two, so I wanted something that was durable. So enough typing....time for some pics So after doing the cab, we sanded the bed...but no pics So on Sunday, it was time to spray!!! I did the bed first and let it dry over night. Then I played hookie from work on Monday so I could paint the cab. this is Monday before I started painting the cab The truck is now in the garage separated, allowing it to dry and il put it back together this weekend. All in all, the paint laid down very well. This truck is the first project ever that I have tried painting. And I can tell all the beginners out there that all of the difficulties in painting are in the body/prep work and finish work. Go get a gun and a compressor and give it a try. But use youtube as a teacher for the proper way to hold the gun and when to let off the material so that just the air blows (probably makes no sense....but spend some time researching, and you'll know what im talking about.) Im going to do another pass on my hood because it has faint tiger stripes.....BUT, I am the one to blame for that because I was in an awkward position while spraying it.

And I didn't paint the bed floor of the truck. My thoughts that there was oil and other contaminants that were 'soaked' into the bed floor. And I didn't want it making the paint peel. So I am going to put a piece of plywood that is cut to fit between the wheel wells, cover it with some carpet padding and indoor/ outdoor carpet. That way I can still use the bed, and it will be a nice place to chill at the car shows with my ez-up tent
Ultimately, im going to take the truck to Linex and have them spray the bed.

Looking good.! That body must have been pretty good beforehand because the new paint looks great and I din't see a lot of bondo on it.
