Help with Tough Country 2" & 3" height measurement

Hey Guys,

I am looking for a little help with ride height.

I have an 83 regular cab 1/2 ton Silverado diesel with a shop built 3" lift under it. I want to replace it with a Tough Country lift because the current rides terrible, the shocks don't fit properly, and I keep cracking the old tired rear leaves. I really like my current ride height and would like to keep it the same, but there seems to be a lot of inconsistency between ride heights between various lifts.

I currently have 24" from hub centre to the fender lip, or 10" from the top of the axel tube to the bottom of the metal bump stop mount on the front.

Can anyone with a similar truck and a 2" or 3" lift give me their height measurements?

Thanks in advance!

Does the truck sit level? If so, is there a block on the back for lift? What size is the block? I have 4" on mine, but won't be able to measure till probly the weekend...

It sits level right now with a 3" block in the back, however, I don't know how much sag are in the rear springs. I want to buy a new lift partly because the rear leaves keep breaking.

It had 3 broken leaves when the shop did the lift 3 years ago, and now it has a broken top/main leaf on the drivers side. All it has done since the lift and paint basically has been run up and down the highway a little bit. I figure the leaves must be basically done.

Thanks 88Jimmy4x4.

I have new 31x10.5R15s on mine. I will check out the fender lip height. I assume it will be about 1" lower due to tire diameter to compare to yours.

That is how GM should have made them from the factory!

What type of wheels? 15x10's?

Dropped pitman arm for steering correction?

15x8 GM hubcap wheels and I did add a skyjacker drop Pitnam even though I think the angle was okay although it did make the angle back to stock

Re: Help with Tough Country 2" & 3" height measurement

I just went out and measured my floor to fender height. I am at just shy of 38", with 31" tires.

88Jimmy4x4, compared to your set up, 42" vs. 38", if I add one inch for tire height, and another inch for the weight of my diesel, so 42" vs. 40", there is still a 2" discrepancy there some where.

Maybe the weight of my turbo system plus the A/C and extra engine compartment insulation sags the springs more than 1" that I have guessed at.

Either way, I think I am going to just order a complete 2" system and hope it sits at nearly the same height.

Stock front height measurement

I talked to suspensionconnection.com and asked about stock measurement for reference.

I was told that the factory measurement from the sway bar plate to the bump stop should would have been 1 3/4".

Just thought I would post this up for everyone.
