Use silicone. It will never fall off. Stays flexible and it's strong. Forget clips and drilling holes. There was no way I was gonna drill all those holes in my body to install all my trim, moldings and emblems. There are holes in the fenders for the gmc emblems but I used silicone and no nuts on the back. There is no way they are coming off without a pry bar. Plus it seals the existing holes so they won't rust. The silicone will hold forever. Just be careful how much you use on trim pieces. Too much silicone and they will be impossible to remove without destroying them.
