Re: My new 1971 K20
I finally got the shell and the mudflaps off the new K20. Looks a lot better to me.

Re: My new 1971 K20
Just had my seat redone by Jesse Lee's Auto Upholstery in Denver. He is 3/4 of a mile from my house....kind of an old looking place but he sure does nice work and FAST! He had my seat done in a week! Charged me $325.00 plus tax...$330.41 total. I had him add a bit of a cutout to the seat in the middle to help clear the transfer case shifter (shifter was moved back due to the overdrive unit in the truck). The fabric I picked is called Silverado...fitting for a Chevy truck I think. I'm really pleased.

Re: My new 1971 K20
That truck was nice with the shell on it.....now it's awesome!!
Really looks cool minus the shell and flaps. The seat looks pretty sharp. I have orange and black as well, but the orange/black houndstooth doesn't appeal to me, and black/white might be too much of a contrast. This Silverado fabric looks real good in there. Congrats on a great find, and the right improvements! |

Re: My new 1971 K20
That is one good looking truck. I like the daylights out of that seat material too.
That `17.8 mpg is something to write home about too. I don't think my 71 GMC could get that coasting downhill with the engine off. |

Re: My new 1971 K20
Thanks for the kind words. I cover ALL ends of the fuel mileage spectrum....
my big block gets 9 MPG, my stroker gets around 14 MPG, my K20 gets 17 MPG and my diesel Beetle gets 44-48 MPG.....

Re: My new 1971 K20
Curious what highway mileage you can get. Oh, good score on the K20, usually they are worked to death and molested- since they were always in demand to be used for winter work and attracted kids and the offroad crowd who wanted to "customize" them. Yours was one of the few to stay standing.

Re: My new 1971 K20
Thats a nice K20!
Hey FYI, my 85K20 6.2 gets 19-20 on the highway with no turbo. Just drove it 400 miles in the past few weeks and filled it up last night. Took 21 gallons of #2. Thats 19mpg. Not bad, now if it just looked like yours... |

Re: My new 1971 K20
I don't think you could have done much better! Fantastic truck, enjoy it and keep an eye on all the 6.2 issues ( looks to be in really good shape) I'm sure the man that owned it would be very happy you got it. Cheers, Pat

Re: My new 1971 K20
After hearing the good numbers of around 20 mpg it kinda makes want to forget about throwing fuel injection on my 454 and swapping in a newer LS or going the 6.2/6.5 diesel route. And very good looking truck.
