Cool truck.. Rare options?..

This truck is for sale locally, I'm thinkin about picking it up.

1978 Chevy 2 wheel drive short bed. It has a 454 motor, TH400 trans, and 12 bolt posi rear end.
The seller says it's a 'rare' completely factory truck. How many of these trucks were produced with these options or is this truck rare at all?

Mines the same but gmc stepside heavy half which is slightly more rare. But it's not uncommon.

That's exactly how my 78 Big 10 SWB came from the factory. They are not that common, at least as far as I've seen.

Re: Cool truck.. Rare options?..

Well, it's now in my driveway. The VIN matches up and it's a factory option truck! The guy says he 'thinks' it's a BIG TEN. What would make it a big-ten?

Re: Cool truck.. Rare options?..

Great truck. Does it have a service parts identification sticker in the glovebox. It will have F44 option listed. Or if no spid, look for 6050 gvw on vin plate in drivers door jamb. My 76 longbed big ten has 6200 gvw and my 76 shortbed big ten has 6050 gvw.

Re: Cool truck.. Rare options?..

4th digit in the vin will tell you if it has the f44 option, it will be a 4.

Awesome. It DOES have the F44 option. What is that exactly, a suspension package?? It's pretty sweet. Does anybody have any idea how many of these trucks were produced?

Its mostly just a loophole package from emissions. It comes with heavy duty springs, brakes, 12 bolt rearend. I have the 6200 gvwr on mine, which on paper gives it a higher gvwr than the light duty 3/4 ton of the year. Oh and it makes the ride really rough haha.
