I think I am going to buy this...

84 K30 Scottsdale. 454/400 turbo and not sure about the transfercase. Supposed to only have 30,000 original miles but probably 130,000. A guy I know just bought it from the original owner. The owner bought two of them new and this one had sat in the barn for the last 14 years. The guy I know has done some little things to it but not much. Power windows and locks with air. I took a few pics of the SPID stickers on the drivers fender but they came out with a glare on them.

I only have two hurdles to get over. One is get the owner down another $500 and the bigger hurdle is breaking the news to my wife. He said he is thinking $2500 but I am thinking more like $2000. It will need both cab corners and I need to look closer to the inner rockers one the running boards come off. It had a utility box on it that the original owner took off. It has a gooseneck welded onto the frame which not sure if it will stay if I buy it. I am looking into putting either a Hillsboro or a CM flatbed on it. Debating between an aluminum bed or a steel bed. It is a C&C truck but from the rear of cab to end of frame is 8'3". With a 2" space between the bed and cab I am not sure just how short of a bed I can get yet. I have heard a 9 footer but would like it to be shorter.

If you can get the price down where you want it, snatch it up. As for the wife, its easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

'84 K30 like that is gonna have an NP205 Transfer Case, IIRC. Yes, High Sierras are GMCs, Post up the VIN, if you don't mind.

The VIN comes out to a Chevy but look through the pics of the SPID. 1GBHK34W0EV minus the last six.

Even at 2500 that would be a good deal in my mind, although I'm partial to 4spds, the TH400 is a good strong trans, and the NP205 is nearly bullet proof.

I am tired of shifting gears. The older I get the less I want to do it and I am only 38. I do have another 84 K30 with a 10' rear frame section that has a 4-speed and 205tc in it that I might end up putting a landscape dump body on someday. If so then I will keep it as a 4-speed. It would probably see more heavy use hauling gravel, wood, mulch etc... The 465 would be better suited for that type of use. The one I am looking at probably won't see that king of abuse.

Actually for the Hillsboro aluminum bed it is only another $500 over their steel bed. Now when we talk about the CM aluminum bed well that is another story. Pricey. I like the CM design better but here awful things about their powdercoating they put on them. I might have to see if they will sell one bare metal and I will have it painted.

I am not sure if putting an aluminum bed on one would be enough weight. Would it be enough weight to not have traction issues and also what about the ride quality. Granted with a one ton ride quality is already at a minumum. A steel bed should soften the springs a little I would think, not sure about the aluminum bed. I will have to see what they weigh I guess.

Re: I think I am going to buy this...

The nice thing I also like about this truck. It is just a Scottsdale so there is no interior trim. Since I am switching the interior color on my short bed I can take all that burgandy trim from it and put in the one ton to finish it out. Headliner, carpeted lower door panels, pillar trim, roof trim, etc... All I will have to do is drill new holes unless I buy a new interior screw kit if I don't use what I have already. This might just work out pretty good. The only thing I might need is a new seat. Both mine and the K30's seats are torn and some of the foam is gone.
