rear main seal

ive been putting it off,but the increase of oil prices just keep rising.is changing the rear main seal that difficult to replace??it seems like its getting worst.help!!

Not that bad actually. I just did mine BUT the motor was out of the truck. To do it in the truck you'll need to drop the flywheel inspection plate, starter, oil pan, oil pump and rear main cap. With the rear main cap off use a small (skinny) flat blade screwdriver and push the upper part of the seal out. Once the upper part of the seal starts to move it rolls right out, I was able to grab it with my fingers and pull it the rest of the way out.
The new seal will push right in. Make sure you offset the seal 3/8" from the bearing cap. Add a small amount of RTV to the ends of the seal ends and a dab on the main cap by the seal ends and put it all back together.
