1964 2nd and 3rd Row Bench Seats
Hello, my wife and I just "entered the club" and bought a 1964 Burb that needs some love ($)...its somewhat "cholo-ized" and my ultimate goal is to restore back to the original stance and general appearance, but first goal is to get some benches in it that are not from a 1990 Tahoe, the front bench is original but that's it, and from initial cl search, people are asking crazy money for 60-66 suburban benches that need to be re-upholstered on top of it, so wondering if anybody has advice for getting back to the general period correct look, but not spending 20% of what I paid for the entire car just for 1 bench?
I have read some of the strings, and there appears to have been an article on what benches fit what, etc., but can't seem to get to the actual article, does anybody have a direct link? Thanks! |

Re: 1964 2nd and 3rd Row Bench Seats
FYI, the burbs had 80/20 front seats, not really bench seat. the PS flips up to allow passengers in the back. the middle seat is a small one and it mounts to the DS of the burb, the rear one is very rare. On your burb, do you have sliding windows on the center AND rear windows? or just the center windows?

Re: 1964 2nd and 3rd Row Bench Seats
Thanks for your replies, yeah, I have done the reading and have the 1964 brochures, I have the original 80/20 front and know what is suppose to be there, and would like to get back to original, but don't want to pay, one guy wants $1,000 for a back bench that is thrashed?? jeez....
Only my center windows slides, does that indicate something? Will upload some pics tonight.. Thanks again! |

Yup those seats are gonna be expensive! Maybe better off reupholstering the seats you have in a stock material. As long as they don't have the integrated seat belts they should look good. I hate late model seats in old cars too! But I've seen some look good with cool upholstery

I think center latches means you only had the long center seat. Are they bolt-in or the slider type?

Bolt in, it has all the floor notch hinge things for both middle and rear. I bought a rear seat from CL that was out of a 68 burb, just need to fab up some bracket or make new bolt holes I guess..

Re: 1964 2nd and 3rd Row Bench Seats
I have the middle and rear seats (frame only though) out of a '62 GMC
Not sure if you could use them or not. The hard part would be making up the cushions/springs. Really cheap if you need um .... Some mods might have to be done.

Re: 1964 2nd and 3rd Row Bench Seats
I don't know if you drive long distances but if you do you might want to rethink using stock seats. I spent alot of money redoing all 3 rows in my burban and after driving for 8 hours I could have doubled the cost with the chiroprators and massage therapy I needed. The best thing I did was selling them and upgrading, better and safer for the kids to and I can easily drive 10 hours with out getting a sore back.

Jack, nice looking Burb you have there.
I've got to wonder how many ppl here will know what Cholo-ized really means. Those of us from Calif. will and some others but I bet our NE friends are scratching their heads.(Google it) BTW I'm a Fresno native, 41 years worth. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 1964 2nd and 3rd Row Bench Seats
"Cholo-ized" definition: to make significant alterations with limited resources and/or "to lower and install shiny hubcaps..." just in case you were wondering. ....

I think we all have some cholo-ization in us, or we would not be in the club...
Thanks for the pics...let me talk to an upholster guy and see what it would take, I'll message you back via the private message thing... Jack |
