Possible trade ? Would you do it?
I know most of y'all are biased toward chevy trucks, but I might have an opportunity to trade my 69 for a 1940 ford custom deluxe sedan. The car is a 4 door , but has a sbc with auto tranny disc brakes on front and camaro rear end. I've only seen pictures and if I can figure out how I will post them on here but it looks cool to me. I'm looking for something to be able to go to cruise ins and take the wife and 2 kids. I have only traded vehicles once in the past and I lost my tail. I have a hard time thinking clearly around cool vehicles.

Re: Possible trade ? Would you do it?
What I'm thinking is my truck would be easier to sell than a 4 door car if something come up an I needed to sell for cash. My truck has a 305 which I hate, but it runs and drives decent. The only way I can do this is a trade I don't have any extra income. I have been looking for something from 40s 50s 60s that I could drive and fix up little by little.

Re: Possible trade ? Would you do it?
Id have to see really good pictures of your truck and really good pictures of the Ford to have an informed opinion.
I traded my K20 for a 62 Ford Unibody truck. I haven't been taken out by any of our Chevy truck brothers ... Yet =)

Re: Possible trade ? Would you do it?
I have done pretty good on trades, but only traded for something I liked, I'm a Chevy guy but also a car nut, I think 40 Fords are cool, even a 4 door. Figure what your truck is worth, and what you could get for the Ford. I had a 'free' motorhome, maybe $600 and labor to fix the roof in it, traded for an 87 GMC longbed that was nice looking, drove it a while, traded it for a hot rod 80 Camaro, then traded it for a 1961 Pontiac Catalina convertible, project but I think I did OK.

Here is my truck and I don't have a better pic of the hotrod. I don't think he is a member. I found the ad in a local Craigslist. I haven't got to go look at it yet so it could still be a no deal. I figure my truck is worth $6500. It looks good and runs good. The negatives would be the 305 with old quadrajet that could use a rebuild. My rear is still 6 lug but I put an ECE power disc brake 5 lug front. Which makes it hard to buy cool wheels until I do something about the rear axles. I worry about trading the things I don't like about my truck for the things I don't know about the car. But I also figure it's a 1940 which has to be worth something. Re: Possible trade ? Would you do it?
The wife likes cruise ins. The 15 y/o daughter not so much, and the 3y/o son has no choice.
Yeah I knew my crowd when I asked the question. I wish I could find someone to go look at it with me and talk me off the ledge if needed. I get stupid around cool cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats, anything with an engine. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Possible trade ? Would you do it?
Sell the truck out right, four door is a hard sell. Have you thought about a K5 or suburban?I have both and my wife and son love the burb,. Im sure the k5 will be a bigger hit once the clutch is replaced (just picked it up)

Re: Possible trade ? Would you do it?
You could post the C'list link for more info, http://dothan.craigslist.org/cto/3816673269.html if it's solid it might be a good trade for a family friendly cruise in driver, would look good in black with flames, maybe see if he will give some boot to get a paint job, MAACO in Dothan used to have a guy that did good paint jobs for their budget price, I used to live in Enterprise.

Re: Possible trade ? Would you do it?
That could make a very cool street rod, good 40's sheet metal is getting hard to find.
Looks like your truck is worth more (from here) BUT you can always build another truck and family time is priceless. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Possible trade ? Would you do it?
If money is tight, keep the truck. The ford is cool, but it's gonna take a small fortune to get it to the level of your truck. Save up some cash and get something better later on.

I agree it will take lots of cash to bring the 40 up to par with your truck, from what I can see. If you can see the need to haul and tow in the near future it may be wise to keep the truck.

Re: Possible trade ? Would you do it?
I think the 4 door part kills the deal.
If it were a 2 door....

Re: Possible trade ? Would you do it?
Lockdoc. Those are awesome examples, but this one is a 4 door. I have seen some nice looking street rodded ones though.
I didn't wanna post the Craigslist link, I'm always worried about some other potential buyers. I have another truck 2000 silverado so I'm not worried about losing the abity tohaul and tow. I was thinking it the body is straight enough some flat black paint some Cool red or white pin striping and cruise it like it is with some little custom touches. Posted via Mobile Device |

Just by the looks of it, the other guy is getting the better end of the deal with your truck if you do decide to go that route. Who knows, he's probably a visitor to this site and is watching every comment on this thread, haha...

Re: Possible trade ? Would you do it?
I would NOT trade specially for a four door car. Four door vehicles are not desirable..
