Alternator How Big? AMPS

I am just about finished installing my air conditioning kit into my 292 65 3/4 ton C20. Some hoses still need to be fitted and some holes in the firewall need pluging.
On the test drive I discovered that the tired old alternator can no longer keep up with the load. It barely managed before I put AC in. I realize that I need to swap in a new high output alternator but how big? How many amps? How do I determine whats best. I'd rather not take it into the shop since this project is way over budget and getting worse. Thanks

Are the wires terminals in good shape.
The last time I purchased alt I just bought largest available at reasonable price. Without knowing specs and doing the math I'd guess alt amps on modern truck should be more than sufficient.

I had the same trouble with a buddy's truck. We went with a 7127-1W (1 wire) and it couldn't keep up with the AC being on.
I did a little checking and found a 7294-1W (1 wire) is more amps earlier in the RPM range and overall.
These are Endurance brand part numbers, if you don't use 1 wire, just substitute the clock position you want in the last number, ie: 7127-3, 7294-12, etc.
Oh, the 7924 case has the same overall dimensions as the popular 7127 case, just higher amp.

have it rebuilt by Gen Star they did mine it went from 45amps to 90amps been in buisiness since 1964 they are at 63rd ave and Glendale i have used them since 1991 this way you get your original back too.623-939-2202
