67' gmc c10

I recently picked up this pickup about 40 miles away from the farm, for a steal of a price. When i got it home i realized all the issues it had, the grill all smucked up and the box not sitting right. But that hasn't stopped me yet, I did a little digging found out that from the factory it had a custom 2-tone paint job, as seen in the pictures. It came from the factory with a column 3 speed, and an I250 straight six. Now it has a 307 that someone very carelessly dropped in there. Just take a look at the alternator bracket. And the guy that had it before me smashed a hole in the radiator, great. The pickup came with a mint chevy hood, and a decent set of doors. And the owner before me tried to do the floor patching, and he didn't even come close to fixing it correctly. Take a look

Looks like a Super Custom...top of the line GMC. A GMC would be a C1500. Chevys are C10s. Is the hood you got with it the right one,67/68,or another 69-72 like the one on it? (that doesn't work on there). Most any '67 GMC with a V8 had it swapped-in since they only started installing V8s at the end of the model year. I can't tell in the picture,but is the alternator mounted to the exhaust manifold or a bracket on the head? The arm bracket looks like the early type that mounts to the exhaust manifold and that bracket type. It looks the the original paint color was Palamino Tan.

Could be a custom, cant tell for sure since the seat is not original. Lets see, what were the ohter things a super custom offered besides buddy buckets- more insulation, carpet, fancier horn button and thats about it. I'm guessing Vin on this one begins CS (I6) since you said it was a 250 truck.

It has a Super Custom emblem and horn button. That's how I figure it's a Super Custom. As with all years 67-72,top of the line had carpet and mid-level had rubber.

It is a super custom, it says in the glove box and has all the correct emblems, and the right horn button but the hood is wrong.

That'd be a 67/68. Good deal! You're good to go (after dealing with all those little holes). The front lip on those hoods like to rust,so if yours is clean you dine good Jethro.

Well last Saturday i was able to get the cab cleaned out, wire brushed the rust, and then coated it with some rust converter. I was also able to scrub out some of the horrible smell. And I checked out all the crappy work that the previous owner had TRIED to do. Well have a look!

I'll give you the horn button but the emblem was also used on many Customs.

Thats cool this one has a SPID, most 67 GMC's weren't tagged.

I think you have a great start there. Do I spy the center seat back support left behind there? Did the SPID say Palamino Tan? It looked like it on the firewall,but monitors can be deceiving.

Finally, made a somewhat concrete decision, i would like to put in a 350 that i got rebuilt last year to put in it. It has trickflow alum heads and a edelbrock performer intake. I think ill be putting on a 650 holley or edelbrock carb, possibly even single point fuel injection. Behind that i want install th350 that i have and still need to rebuild. I've decided that since the 307 in it is not factory, might as well replace it with something that's just lying around Then the rear end will be a 4 link, disc brakes, 12 bolt chevy, also just sitting around.The front end will be power rack, disc brakes, and mustang II or similar setup. Give me feedback on what you think!

Sounds good. It's always good to use what's lying around. That's the theme of my '67 GMC SWB...('71 frame,'72 cab,'68 327,'65 M22,and a bunch of '67 GMC Super Custom parts). Actually,it started like yours. I had a 350/TH350 laying around out of a '71. I found the large journal 327 to build-up and the 4spd,so I still have the 350/TH350 laying around. WTB: 67-72 GM truck w/o engine or trans...heh heh. What I really want to do is an early S10 swap with my son,since he doesn't seem too excited about these "big" old trucks. He's 21 and is small-minded when it comes to vehicles (and that stock stuff will be plenty powerful in an S10)

Well yesterday night and this afternoon i got going on welding up the holes on my almost perfect 67/68 chevy hood i got with the pickup, took all the letters off and i'm going to stain a piece of oak to put them on and hang them up somewhere. Then sanded off the paint and welded up the holes. Then just used a angled die grinder with a 36 grit disc. After that a file and a hammer to smooth it out. Then used some filler primer, and a sanding block to smooth it out. Have a look!

It looks to me that the small block that is in it is sitting in the 6 cyl motor mounts,I just picked up two short bed stepsides and the previous owners both left the 6cyl mounts in them that is why the motor is sitting so far back

Just a quick update, last night i took the carb apart and totally cleaned and rebuilt it. And got my whole key situation figured out, i ordered a new lock cylinder, but then i found out that you cannot remove the old lock cylinder without a key. So that was another trip to the parts store to get a new ignition switch. Then the other day i took my gas tank into town to get cooked and coated. I was able to throw a battery in and crank it over. But i need the gas tank back before i can drive it, i also got a new sending unit because half of the float was missing!! Thanks for reading, Enjoy!

I put the gas tank tank back in with the new sender, got all the lines cleaned out and hooked up. Then i was able to get it started, AND DRIVE IT!!! I was able to take it around the section, with partial brakes. Now i'm going around it fixing little things to make it better, such as the bent nails holding on the transmission shift linkages.
