Re: 14 bolts's in 67-72 C-Series???

What are you trying to figure out? Will it swap? I have a 72 C30 cab chassis that I swapped a 14 bolt into in place of the eaton. It was a direct swap except for the shock mounts and a little finagling with the e brake cables. Coil sprung trucks will require new pads in place of the leaf perches. I don't know about the GMC version with the leafs if it will be a direct replacement or the possibility of moving the mounts. Hope this helps

I replaced my Eaton with a 14 Bolt and it's the best thing I did. You can't get parts for the Eatons. 14 Bolts are a lot more common.

Same thing here, replaced the eaton with a 14 bolt and 3.42s in my longhorn. Didn't have to move the spring seats, but had a little fabrication with the shocks and parking brake cables

Is an "Eaton" a 12 bolt? If not how do I know if I have a Eaton or not?

I can't remember the number of bolts on the inspection cover, but they have a "drop out" style third member kinda like a ford 9".

Here's a pic for reference:

Re: 14 bolts's in 67-72 C-Series???

What is the U-Joint situation? I just stripped an 82 C30 front and rear to swap into my 71 C30 Dually. I am going to do the whole crossmember swap in the front and change out the rear. Shocks are obvious but NAPA shows different #s for the U-Joint.

Re: 14 bolts's in 67-72 C-Series???

For years, I ran a 14 bolt SF that I just swapped out in favor of the 14 bolt FF. I am letting someone else finangle the E-brake cables but even with the SF, I have to use conversion u-joints as I have the heavy duty driveline. If that's already done, it's a bolt-on. Even the SF was a good call but I pull a heavy trailer and where it had held up well, I just felt safer with the full-floater.

In short, it works and works very well.

I run a late model 11.5" 14 bolt in my k20. The extra width and strength is only a set of perches and shock mounts away.

Re: 14 bolts's in 67-72 C-Series???

I'm in.I acquired a used "75 FF 14 bolt for free.Had been sitting for years.I had to throw away the drums ,backing plates, shoes wheel studs,etc... I hear that disc brake conversions on these are cheap and plentiful. I haven't gotten around to measuring width difference between '67 12 bolt and the 14 bolt. Mine won't be a bolt in with coils and track bar. I'm always looking for info,so if anyone has more please pile it on. Good thread!

I used 9.5 14 bolt from a 90 SS 454 in my 67 K10. relocated perches and used front gm 10 bolt shock mounts. Made a 6 lug from 5 on 5 with hub centric 1.5" spacers.

You can also use a 9.5 14 bolt out of a K2500 (light duty 3/4) as they are a little wider and are six lug already.

I'm sitting on an 8 lug 9.5" if you might be interested. The 8 lug is kind of rare and I ran it for years on my 72 without issue. I just upgraded to the 10.5"

Post #12 shows a 14 bolt. It does have 14 bolts on the inspection cover.

The two other pics are Eaton axles. I think one has it's cover installed upside down.
