Composite Decking as Wood Bed Replacement

I am considering replacing my 34 year old wood bed with composite decking. The bed has warped and rotted over the years and is no longer salvageable. Has anyone successfully installed a composite bed? Did you like the results? Pics would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Big Jay

never seen it done....composite has its own issues as well....I would be more inclined to go wood again cause in another 34 years you prolly wont be here and if you are its doubtful you will give a crap....

The composite stuff expands and contracts unlike wood which is relatively stable. I think your floor would warp badly. That's why they don't use if for housing studs.
It sounds like a good product for this application but overall I think you're better off with the real stuff.

Here's what I did, found a lumber milling shop. In Charleston, SC, were I live, I used Southern Lumber and Millwork. I got some old heart pine planks and milled them myself, looks great, smells good, and will last forever. True heart pine doesn't rot or warp.

Southern yellow pine is what they used from the factory and that lasted 34yrs. I would stick with the real trees.
After my beds painted im putting the original wood and strips back in on my 74.

I have seen a thread somewhere with composite decking..I would think that it would work fine if you added some extra cross braces for support. I have oak and it expands and contracts like crazy..sometimes I can here it creak in the garage.

It might work in a pick-up bed with a cover on it but out in the sunlight it will look horrible quickly and literally fall apart after that from first hand experience.
