Question Anyone running Brembo rotors??

I have had it with GM and Kragen rotors on my '84..........they both warp in no time flat.
I know the Powerslots are just GM rotors slotted and plated so that leaves only one company,
Brembo.
Anybody running them?

I'd say there's something else going on here. I've never warped a rotor on one of these trucks. I have the cheap Schucks (same company as Kragen) rotors on my 87 and they've been fine. Is there something else wrong maybe? A sticking caliper or some overly aggressive brake pads?

If it's not any of those, I've heard very good things about raybestos stuff, maybe a set of them would be worth trying before you go to the high $$$ stuff.

Question

Does Brembo even make rotors for our years of trucks? Looked at application chart and only saw application for late model GM trucks.

I work at a parts wholeseller. During the summer we literally sell close to 10-12 SKIDS of brake rotors a WEEK! about 90% of that is the cheap Raybestos brand. And I would say out of the 40 skids a month, we prob. get around amybe close to 1 skid of those back due to a warping problem. 40:1 raito is pretty good. And most of the time, we can either blame it on sh*tty pads, or the idiot at the shop who installed it ( or dropped it on the floor twice. . . ).

I would make sure your getting a good set of pads. Have the rotors trued on a lathe before you install them. Also, stay away from ceramic pads. From experince cerasmic pads really don't work all that great on heavy trucks. Great and mid size and compact cars, but not on full size trucks. We have seen ceramic pads warping truck rotors.

I've had my powerslots on my 98 for 3 years now with no problems and the stockers were on there for nearly 3 years as well.

If you want to spend the $$$$ step up to Baer Brakes. Brembo doesn't make an application for our trucks unless they have changed. There are a couple more out there that offer big brake set ups, like- Stainless Steel Brakes

If you just want premium quality brakes at a decent price check out Praise Dyno Brakes

Bear stuff is also just upgraded GM or Alcon stuff. If you want something truely capable of stopping look at brembo (you'd have to make brackets for the calipers) or performance friction. I have Wilwood integra 6 calipers on my corvette and they are nothing short of awesome.

http://www.p-s-t.com has a nice setup for our rigs, their stage 4 setup is identical to the SSBC Force 10.

Never warped a rotor on mine except the set that was on it when I bought it and crap pads.

You are seasoning/tempering the rotor when new right? It's really important to do that with the cheap steel on Chinese rotors. They have a lower carbon and nickle content then Most US rotors.

Actually powerslot rotors are brembo blanks that are then slotted. I've run two sets, one on my 99 v6 accord and the other on my 02 v6 accord. The v6 accord will warp stock rotors in about 1 depress of the brake pedal above 80mph, they suck really bad. The powerslots on the other hand have held up remarkably well, surviving some SERIOUS beating on the 99 accord before I flipped it
I would recommend someone else though knowing what I do now. Someone who makes the rotors in house and to be drilled and/or slotted to begin with, not blanks.

I work with these guys, EXELLENT quality. Check out the site, and if you want a set let me know in a PM: www.racingbrake.com

I was also told they were GM rotors by Truck Performance.com when I bought mine. Either way I'd run them again if I had the choice.

If you want to stop warping rotors, regardless of who makes them, have the cryogenic treated.

If you want your rotors to stop warping check for runout when installing them and shim when necessary. Also check caliper alignment.

Anyone needing this done let me know, the machine shop two doors down from my Dad's shop has a cryogenic unit. He's the guy that helped me build brackets for my new buckets.

I might email them just to find out why they say that. I've talked to powerslot before and they told me they use brembo blanks

how about just taking it a little easier on the brakes? after all, it is a truck, not an SCCA car.

Are you torqueing your wheels? I've seen plenty of rotors warped by an impact wrench. (even using hand tools)

Thank you all for the help and advice given.
I ALWAYS torque my lugs BTW.
I know I shouldn't run SCCA events with something like our trucks!
I save the Z/28 for the fun stuff.
I do not brake hard except when I have too.
One thing does come to mind from the above posts..........I run Performance Friction pads from Autozone and I think they last waay too long. I get 10+ years out of a set and that means they are too hard and therefore hard on the rotors.

Too all those that think Brembo doesn't make a rotor for our trucks go to Tirerack.com and look at 'em.........they list then there and they are only $40 a piece. MUCH cheaper than the GM stuff.

Unhappy

Too bad they are just the plain rotors and not the drilled and slotted type.
