i just got my 1948 GMC long bed and it has the original axles with the drum brakes but they jacked the lines and master cylinder, what all do i need and where could i get it to get the brakes working again?? basically all i have right now is the drums on the axle. thanks for any help.

Jim carter truck parts or classic chevy parts will have parts for your brakes. If it is a 3/4 ton Jim carter said they had rear drums. I have a 3/4 and the thing I am having trouble finding is a set of front drums.

You would be amazed at what the local parts stores can get for these trucks.. Check out your local Napa auto parts as well as Orielly's. They both have rounded up many parts for my 52 and had them by the next business day.

Check Chev's of the 40's too. Not sure about them having larger than 1/2 ton truck stuff though.

Unless you want to stay stock, I would look at a dual MC set up, probably not much more than finding a good rebuilt stock one. I know NAPA still has rebuild kits and wheel cylinders for my 64 Chevelle, I would make a guess that the truck ones are available too, the basic design did not change for years across all GM lines.

sorry its been a while, the truck got put on hold as ive been rebuilding a big block olds 425 for it, now im to a halt on the engine so back to the truck, ive been debating the dum,dum,dum s10 frame swap lol but ran across a mustang II junk yard front clip for 350 bucks so now im debating on that, what do you all think is the easiest cheaper route??
