"IF" you might be moving...."MAYBE" out of state,across country(Cali to Illinois) and you have 3 vehicles to take...1)1996 3/4t Suburban,1) 1999 Toyota Corolla,1) 1976 Chevy C10. How would you do it?
BEFORE you answer let give you some info...
I have 2 kids, one of which is severely disabled(5 yr old) and another boy that is 7, my wife and a Chocolate Lab. The kids will HAVE to ride in the Suburban...at least the 5yr old. The WIFE will NOT drive the truck..period,and has NEVER driven anything with a trailer in tow. There will be some items taken(personal belongings and medical equipment/supplies for my 5yr old).
Would you rent a tow dolly and pull the toyota with the truck and load the bed with everything that would fit and go.....remember it's a 1/2t 2wd,350,th350 and I dont know what gears.

.............OR.................

If you had the chance to trade the 1/2t for a crewcab dually(1985,454,th400...needs A/C gone through,has Thorley headers,carbed...blah blah blah)....would you trade and use that to tow/haul everything?

............OR..............

SELL 1/2t,buy or rent an enclosed trailer,pack everything in trailer,tow with Suburban and have WIFE drive her Toyota?

Thanks for listening and I hope it made sense...now NEED OPINIONS!

I'd go with option 1. Wife drives Suburban, you drive truck with Toyota on dolly (not drive on car hauler). Just my thoughts.

Sell all vehicles, fly to destination, purchase replacement vehicle(s) at destination. Or, have Yota shipped via car hauler, fly to destination.

Im assuming one trip only and you don't want to go back..

With that said I would go option 1, But really depends on how much you have to take with you.
Would your wife be willing to put one of the single axle enclosed U-haul trailers behind the suburban?
But with that route also you could back the Toyota full of any belongings.

Flat tow the 76 behind the suburban and the wife(boss) drive the Turdota.
Is your 76 a short or long box?
You can disconnect the driveshaft.

Load the 76 on a trailer with your belongings in and around it pull the trailer with the suburban and have the wife drive the yota

I feel you pain. Our move from CA to WA is going to look something like this:

'88 Sub tows the Jayco Pop Up - My Dad will fly down to CA and drive this one up
'77 CC Dually tows the 18' car trailer loaded down w/ the '84 Shortbed - I'll drive this combo
U-Haul - My Uncle will fly down to CA and drive this one up

Got anyone who'd be willing to drive for ya? Might cost you a plane ticket, but still...

Some shippers are charging .53 cents a loaded mile to transport. I'd do some investigating as to the viability of that. Thinking of have missus drive the yota, loaded to gills, you rent a u haul... also loaded to gills and start your trek.. Bearing in mind the rocky mountains are btw. Cali. n Illi-NOISE... I'm in Indiana and have made the drive, its very pretty.. and really really long. fuel out here is running around 3.84 a gallon for reg. diesel is around 4 bucks. but the Cali. truck here in resale will help the budget.... another thought

Trade for the dually. I know you what you paid for the 76, so you would be ahead. The dually can haul or tow whatever you want. Once you get to new location, sell or trade the dually for something else, if you want. My uncle bought a big enclosed trailer and towed it up to Wa from Ca when he moved. Then was able to use it as storage for a while. Then sold it for what he paid. Better than renting one..

I would rent a u haul trailer and tow the truck with the suburban, have the wife drive the Toyota. Then you can pack the car, most of the suburban and the entire truck with belongings and off you go..

Oh think of it this way, the suburban will get about the same mileage no matter which car it's towing (within a mile or two a gallon anyways) and the car is going to get killer meage that should make up and then a bunch of the loss from the truck. Should save you a good amount on fuel cost..

I have thought of this. I have my BBQ trailer listed on craigslist, if that sells, then my plans are to buy an enclosed trailer to carry our belongings.

This was my initial thought as well. Load the burb as much as you can and load the bed of the 76 down too. Your wife could drive the car with your other child for company. That is one long trip though.
