is this a 307,327 or a 350 ? please help

ok so i have a few casting numbers please help me out..
crank # 3911001
front left of the block 781122502 VII29HF
block casting # back right 3914678

can you tell from this or do i have to measure the stroke?
i was told its a 327 but i dont see the valve at the back of the block like the 383 has, i have a 283 so i looked. also the web or ridge isnt on the front left ....so what more do i need to know what ive got???


if it is a 327.... then i have a 283,327,350 and im looking to build a motor for my 51 bel air ...i would love to have it good on gas and i really like the sound of a lumpy cam ..Big Muthr Thumpr.. can i have both?? what should i build for this car ..ive never built a motor and i think its about time ,thanx for all the help.. and let me know if i can help by looking for more casting numbers..all the sites i look at say its one of the 2 but i want to know if it is a 327

identifying 307,327,350?

trying to find out what motor i have if anyone can help that would be great
casting numbers i have are
crank #391001
block casting # 3914678
block code 781122502 VII29HF

do i have to measure the stroke to know if this is a 327 or what numbers do i need to look for ...i dont see the valve at the back like the 283 has and i dont see the "web" or "fin" at the front below the head so if you can help me out or let me know what i have here or what i need to tell what i have that would be great ...thanx for the help...

Looking at the overlap on the dates, I'd bet it's a '68 327.

sounds great...so from what ive read the vortec heads seam to be a good choice for fuel and power ..i want to put this motor in my 51 bel air ..looking for a little power,good on gas,and if i can a lumpy cam,i love that sound.. what is the best way to go with this motor to get everything i want out of it?

Yup... all sound... they are ground that way. There are waaaayyyyy better cams out there.

Look into the Lunati Voodoo series or Comp XE series.

Yep, thumper is all bark and no bite. Can't go wrong with a Lunati Voodo. The Comp XE is good too. Just get the right profile that will give you some lope if that's what you want. Use the Comp website or ask around here what cams others use.

just got a set of 350 vortec heads casting #12558062 for 150$ and only costs 25 to have them fluxed... so the 1951 bel air is being built from the ground up, i still dont have a rear end in the car so can get any gears still... what cam and gear set should i get to make this thing drive good in town but still be have lost of go...ill do whatever it takes to make this work..new springs in the heads to get a more lumpy cam ... ive never built a car to go fast..only just added any sbc i had around and put a intake on...prob the wrong ones lol anyways would love some help with this. thanx

Call the cam companies. Tell them what you have and what you want to do. What you think is "streetable" and what I think is "streetable" isn't even going to come close.

It depends if its going into a bel air I would rather have a cam to give me a little more bottom end rather then higher top end unless this is going to be a drag car 3896929 is the crane number for the 300hp 327 cam. always a good choice IMO for a street driven car.

big cams arent fast.. especially with vortec heads.. use a 60102 at most and a shim.

I'm not a big fan of Vortec heads... but if you're lookin' for a mild street build with a cam that has under .470 lift they are pretty darn good. Just remember you will need a special intake to bolt to Vortec heads.
